The next chapter in the Disney+ show will see the group brought back together to track down Mr. Benedict and Number Two after they're kidnapped by his brother Dr. Curtain as part of his latest scheme for power.

Tony Hale returns to lead The Mysterious Benedict Society season 2 cast alongside Kristen Schaal, MaameYaa Boafo, Ryan Hurst, Gia Sandhu, Mystic Inscho, Seth B. Carr, Emmy DeOliveira, and Marta Kessler. Much like Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events before it, the Disney+ series is expanding the scope of its children-focused adventure for a rollicking new time.

Mystic & Marta on The Mysterious Benedict Society

Screen Rant: I'm very excited to get to talk about The Mysterious Benedict Society. It's been such a fun ride since it launched, and season 2 continues to be a real treat. What were your first reactions when you saw the scripts for season 2?

Mystic Inscho: Well, it was really exciting, and some things were unexpected which was fun to see. It was just really fun to read the script like a book, I think the audience will like the unexpected turns in our script.

Marta Kessler: Yeah, I didn't read the books, I didn't read the second book, so it was a surprise for me what was happening, and it was a very good surprise. The scripts are really great, and there are a lot of new, exciting things for viewers to see.

What was the feeling when you got to reunite with your society members on set for the first time?

Mystic Inscho: It was great being together with the kids again, and the adults were really fun. We got to hang out outside of set, too, sometimes, and it was just a really great experience.

Marta Kessler: Yeah, as Mystic said, I think it was really fun to reunite with everybody, with kids and the adults. We hung out together outside of shooting and filming, it was really fun to reunite again.

It seems like you all have a really good bond with one another. How close to your characters would you say you both are in real life? Do you share any fun similarities with them, or do you feel they're totally alien from yourselves?

Mystic Inscho: I feel like, for me, Reynie is really similar to myself. We can both sometimes doubt ourselves, we're both, I don't want to say really smart, but we're both kind of smart.

Marta Kessler: For me, I think Constance is not really like me, because I think Constance is more confident than me. She's confident in what she's saying, she says what she's thinking, and she doesn't think there's something bad in it. I don't think that Constance is evil, she's just brutally honest.

Do you find that extra challenging for you, Marta, to play up to that, since you find her to be so different in that sense?

Marta Kessler: No, I actually get used to it, and I really got to use to being Constance. It was easy for me to play Constance, because I really got used to it, but in the second season, Constance had some changes, which were unexpected, and I think audiences will be interested in that.

I know I'm certainly excited to see what comes next for Constance after those first few episodes. Mystic, we've seen Reynie grow into a very confident adventurer. What can you tease about his arc coming into this season?

Mystic Inscho: Oh, there are some very interesting emotional changes. He learns how to be true to his unique self, even when apart from his found family. I'm really excited for people to see that.

Can we look forward to seeing a lot more big action sequences?

Mystic Inscho: Yes, definitely.

What would you say was your favorite sequence to get to film from the first three episodes?

Mystic Inscho: I forget, did we get on the boat?

The Mysterious Benedict Society on the boat

Yes, you're on the boat.

Mystic Inscho: Okay. My favorite scene to film was probably getting on the boat, that sequence in the talking to the ticket person, and sneaking onto the ship. That was a really fun thing to film.

Marta Kessler: I had a lot of favorite scenes, but I think one of the funniest scenes is when we were hanging on a rope, and we had to do it on blue screen. We had special harnesses, and we were supposed to be holding a rope, and we're supposed to be going down on a rope. We had to be really close to each other, and because we're swinging on those ropes in our harnesses, we were sometimes bumping into each other with our faces. It was really funny, Emmy said that she was never so close to us in her life, it was really funny. [Chuckles]
