- Mercedes PReading, Pennsylvania58 contributionsWorth to visitAmazing place. A lot of museums. A lot of art and history artifact. Yo can spent the whole day here. Convenient one ticket for all museums. Restaurants were good. Museums were closed one from another. Not a lot of people in September. Caring staff.Visited September 2022Traveled soloWritten May 20, 2023
- bingo2008Toronto, Canada116 contributionsExcellent value for the priceAll five museums are amazing. We find Pergamon Museum the most underwhelmed because everyone gives such great review so expectation was high. Part of the museum was closed, even though the Babylon section was pretty, there wasn’t too much content in rest of the museum. Love Bode both the building and exhibition. The other three museums are nice. The museum island pass is a steal for its price. Be sure to book a time slot during busy tourist season.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 7, 2023
- MarkSandspit, New Zealand42 contributionsBerlin Museumsinsel (museums island)Lots of historic buildings (free to view from the outside). Crowded in the summer but spacious enough for this not to be too much of a problem. Probably the most impressive part of Berlin to visit because there are so many architecturally interesting buildings in one area. Allow at least 90 minutes to explore. Good (free) toilet at the new extension of Deutsches Historiches museum. Easy walk to Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag (along Unter den Linden). Or head the opposite way to see the TV tower up close.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 11, 2023
- BigMerkGlasgow, United Kingdom2,497 contributionsGreat idea to group these buildings togetherWe stumbled across Museum Island as we walked to our train station for the return to our ship. We had seen it in the map but didn’t know what it was. It’s very impressive housing museums and Berlin Cathedral. Definitely recommend a visitVisited July 2023Traveled with friendsWritten July 23, 2023
- Marcelo AOrlando, Florida16 contributionsBerlin Museum Island in one dayI used Staatliche Museen zu Berlin website to buy the tickets. Select Combined Tickets - Museum Island + Panorama regular for 19 euros (this gives you access to all of the Museum Island museums listed below for one day) Timeline to get it done in one day: 10:00 Altes Museum (This one does NOT require a time slot reservation) 11:15 Neues Museum (Requires a time slot reservation) 13:15 Pergamon Museum (Requires a time slot reservation) 15:00 Alte National Galerie (Requires a time slot reservation) 16:15 Pergamon Das Panorama (Requires a time slot reservation) 17:00 Bode Museum (This one does NOT require a time slot reservation) Once you buy the one day ticket go to tickets and reserve times as shown above for the ones requiring time slots reservation. Select: time slot reservation (valid in combination with a museum island ticket) 0 euros. Time reservations are free with your 19 euros one day ticket. Bring water and snack. No time to do lunch. - Mordack WRoscommon, Ireland159 contributionsWhat an awe-inspiring locationI'd place this visit as top priority to all visitors of Berlin. You could easily devote a full day to absorbing the artwork, artifacts and amazing architecture that makes up the museums on this island. Bring a good pair of walking shoes, lots of energy, some water and perhaps a small lunch. Lots of unexpected surprises and breathtaking exhibits to admire. If you have time to visit more than one museum, there is a ticket available for €19 each to allow admission to multiple museums, please note booking visit times in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 23, 2023
- @david_b_lewis26 contributionsgreat collection, in one place, of good collectionsWorth getting a hotel nearby because you can spend several days walking around these museums, and it's nice to start and finish close by. Note: Museums are busy and generally don't open until 10am. Several are closed Monday; the Humboldt Forum is open. Note: Not worth it to get the 3-day pass, because you'll probably need timed entry tickets to the museums, and I (at least) couldn't figure out how to get a timed-entry reservation without having to also buy a ticket. Note: Bode abuts other buildings but you have to leave the island to access it. Note: Pergamon supposed to be closed for the next 8 years, except for the separate gallery abjoining the Neues Museum. Note: for a fun chronological arrangement of subject material, start with the Altes Museum, then the Neues Museum and the Bode-Museum. Note: museums are good to very good individually, having them together makes for excellent experienceVisited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 19, 2023
- Marianne G35 contributionsA must visit site for Berlin loversThis Unesco heritage site features a lot of remarkable places, including the famous Berlin cathedral with the famous architect and panoramic view terrace, Altas (old) Museum and Neues (new) museum, Bode museum, and more galleries. This place is a must-visit for anyone even if you are not a museum person, you still can take wonderful photos of the buildings along the river. . I recommend getting the museum pass online in advance which allows you 3 days of free entry to most museums ( Berlin Cathedral is not included)Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 29, 2023

I was only visiting for a few days so didn’t have the time to visit all the museums but loved walking around and taking in the architecture and the surrounding areas. We walked through the arts market which was pretty amazing, sadly only open at the weekendVisited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 17, 2023

Some local cafes and a street may on some days to give a break. Get the combined day ticket but don’t forget to book individual times for entry into the main museums. This is not about the individual museums that I reviewed separately, but about the whole experience on Museum Island. Be patient because you will need it visiting here at least at the present time.
First, you need to buy a ticket AND a reservation. You also need a reservation FOR EACH exhibit, like Gaughan, if you want to visit. If you are solo or a couple ok, good luck trying to keep several family members straight.
The online tickets are sent to you in random order, and in German, so you have to try to organize them on your phone.
They will not accept a screenshot so it must be PDF. You also will be asked to show these tickets even inside the museums as you are viewing exhibits.
My advice; is just pick one museum as a small group and print out everything beforehand. Note, this is the only place in Germany that I had to deal with this.

We went to Altes Museum first, after the ticket line in the Pergamon Museum was extremely busy. We got an all day ticket for the whole Museumsinsel at once to skip the lines and see what interests us in the different exhibits. After enjoying the Greek collection at Altes Museum we went back to Pergamon Museum. Unfortunately, skipping the long ticket line didn't work because we got sent back to get another " Zeitfensterticket " at the ticket booth. So, after we almost left the museum a nice lady at the information counter helped us out and referred us to her less busy coworkers, who issued another ticket for the Neues Museum, where we went to the Nefertiti bust. After realizing that the Pergamon Altar was still closed we skipped going back to get another Zeitfensterticket to get entry. I found that process very annoying and the company who manages the ticketing on Museumsinsel should find a more efficient way of letting people get access after they paid already for the tickets. Please, check with the Metropolitan Museum in NYC how they manage visitors and groups waiting in line for access. Berlin can do better!

We bought the Museum Island pass which gives you access to all 5 museums plus the das panorama exhibit of the pergamon museum, which is in a separate building. Got into the Alte museum fine with no problems. We tried to get into the pergamon museum but we got told that we needed a time slot. We queued for 20 minutes only to be told that all time slots were gone. Very disappointing given we had already purchased the ticket. Went to das panorama to make the money worth it and it was fantastic.
Overall, the museum island pass is great value, but please make sure to buy well in advance of your trip and book a time slot online separately to avoid disappointment. The architecture of the museums is worth 30-45 mins on its own, a stunning place to visit!

The Museum Island is in the historical middle of Berlin. You can easily walk from the Friedrichstreet or just take the train to the station Hakescher-Markt.
Near the Spree are a lot of bars and you can sit in deck chairs, have some drinks with friends and look at the beautiful buildings.
I really like to walk around the Spree bank and sometimes there are street musicians and it creates a outstanding atmosphere with the Berliner Dom in the background.
If you have the time you should visit one of the museums like the Bodemuseum or the Pergamonmuseum.

A small island sandwiched between the Berlin dome and humbodlt university, it houses 6 museums, including the bod, altea, and the Pergammon. Pergamon was unfortunately shut due to covid, however, the panorama designed by yaldear asisi is a must visit. All the museums are very well kept, great collection, easily needs 2 full days to see the museums in its entirety. A delight for history and art lovers.

Never. Again. They don't allow bags or coats inside the museums, which would be fine if I didn't need an inhaler. I was refused entry at the Pergamon Museum twice before - when trying to see if I could get a refund - someone gave me a clear bag with an 'allowed' label. Someone again tried to refuse me entry, until I showed them the bag and raised my voice at them. I then put the rest of my belongings in the coat check area. It was very hard to enjoy myself after this, especially cause the occasional person would stare at my bag. Why should someone have to announce their medical needs when entering a museum? I still tried, even used the audio guide - which isn't that good either. It's not super organized, but to be fair, is workable. It's also not accessible to those with hearing impairments unable to speak German or those with mobility issues, so I'd recommend skipping if you fall into either of those categories.

The amount of things to see is incredible. I think the best way to see the museums is over a 3-day time period, where you see a couple museums each day, and spend the rest of that day doing other unrelated things. Otherwise it's too each to get fatigued/overloaded.
The museums all have free coat/bag checks, but they have long lines. If you're planning to see multiple museums, the obvious trick is to check your stuff at one museum, skip the coat check lines at the other museums, and only get your stuff at the end.

Feeling not welcome in the museums. Umpleasant and ognoramt guards. Went to see Pergamon and Neues Museum after byimg tickets online, just to find that you need to book time slots to actually enter. The time slot could not be booked online and it was only possible to enter Neues Museum. The exhibition really lacked presenting the objects in context. All in all a poor experience

I'm a big history buff and excited to make Museum Island a big highlight in my upcoming trip to Berlin. I'm trying to get my head around how much time to allocate to each for planning purposes.
Are all of the museums a similar size? Or are some much smaller than others?
I'm more familiar with museums like the British Museum and the Metropolitan, so trying to gauge my expectations of time needed based on the couple of days I spent at each of those.

I didn't experience any problems with time slots. My friend and I just rocked up at the Pergamum and got in. I guess we were about an hour inside. Personally I wouldn't want to do more than one in a day, but maybe that's just me. I certainly enjoyed it, but I'm not a huge museum goer - one was enough .

I will be in Berlin from October 14th to 20th. Which parts of the museum will be closed?
The Pergamon mus, The temple of Ishtar? Are the Ancient Near East galleries open? How about Old National galery and Old (Greek, Roman, Etruscan art) museum? The info about what is and is not open is very murky. I appreciate your help.

All of the museums should be open with the exception that the Pergamon altar is closed for several more years, but the rest of the Pergamon is open. Don't miss it. To compensate, there is now a separate Pergamon extension that replicates the altar using a movie style screen. Its huge and 360 degrees. Don't miss that either. It is a short walk behind the Pergamon itself. Get to the museums early to avoid lines. The museum pass is a good deal if you are seeing several. Audio guides are free and superb.
