Awful exhibition

Capodimonte is one of the top museums of Italy: whenever I am in town I can't miss another visit. This time, however, the centerpiece of attention according to the personnel was not the permanent collection, but a special "Napoli Napoli" exhibition, where visitors were hastily directed. The exhibition decor was totally tacky, with puppets, Pulcinellas, and supposedly jocular vignettes, while the compulsory audio guides blasted music and irrelevant comments from the superego-driven voice of the museum director. Of the lovely Ruoppolo paintings previously hanging on the walls, only one was left to make space for humdrum restyling. What a shame!

exceptional exhibit a must

The museum collections are always outstanding featuring Caravaggio Titian Simone Martini and many others but this time and until June they have the exhibit called "Lava Porcelain and Music - never seen anything like it !
Throughout beautiful ballroomsa and halls they represent the life in Naples in the 18th with costumes form the San Carlo Opera House, furniture, objects and music all along .
Including in the tickets you will received headsets with all explanations and music to accompany you dated from the period. It is hard to describe but believe me worth a visit !

if you had the chance to see what the capodimonte brought at the Petit Palais in Paris , you ll be surprised by the dimensions , the beauty or the fullness of the museum .
It's a to be seen . Plus , you ll find easily a special hip on hip off just for that museum to go to and bring you back at the Dante station .

Amazing art, poor organization

The museum is beautiful. If you're into art and stuck in Naples on a rainy day, it's the perfect activity; you can easily spend a couple.of hours just inside. The grounds outside are massive as well, and very lovely. I'd give it a pure 5 for the museum experience.

The organization and the staff however, is a whole new story. Some are friendly enough, but the lady selling tickets prefers to browse her Facebook news than talking to visitors/selling tickets. What's more, there aren't many (if any) benches in the museum; you can't sit down while observing the paintings, which would be nice (and a common practice in many other art galleries). Also, the descriptions of art pieces are 80% Italian, which is quite egocentric. Few and very random objects have English descriptions. And the descriptions are quite small. Trying to read them (by leaning forward) sets off the mini alarm every time you get too close to the art work. To top it all off, the toilets are an absolute disgrace.

worth the small effort to reach it

Great collection in a beautiful palace, totally worth the small effort to get there. From the Museum metro station, follow the signs in the station for the Capodimonte exit, then turn right and the bus stop is about 100 feet up the street. The bus lets you off at an entrance to the park, from which it is a short walk to the museum. There are more detailed instructions on the museum's website.

You may see painting of the Renaissance and Mannerism as well as Neapolitan (Italian) Baroque era painting. Rich collection among rich interiors. Fabulous views from the windows of the palace to Naples and the seaside

Beautiful museum in a fantastic setting

The building is beautiful and set in a fantastic park that makes you forget the noise and traffic of the city below. The paintings are sometimes boring but with incredible peaks like for the work of Tiziano, Raffaello and especially Caravaggio )one painting only but woth the trip. Highly recommended.

Beautiful collection in a beautiful building in a beautiful park

This place is HUGE so it’s probably worth looking at the floorplan and targeting what you want to prioritize in case you get too tired to see the whole collection. Like most of the art museums in Naples, the preponderance of the collection is Neapolitan Baroque and after awhile it started to look the same, but it’s still a solid collection in a really elegant, ornate space. The park outside looked gorgeous as well, but unfortunately we didn’t have time to explore it.

Better Grounds than Actual Museum

The museum is on a very large property so there are two aspects of the visit—the museum itself and the forest around it. The museum itself is chock full of artwork, but it is deplorably organized. There are masters everywhere and seemingly no theme or general organization. In fact, on the top floor, which houses the modern/contemporary artwork, there is a side room that harbors even more masters. Why they are where they are is still a mystery since there is no explanation about it. You just enter a room and voila, there they are. Another complaint is the lighting. For each piece, you need to walk around and about, until you hit the right spot at which you can observe the work without any glares coming off. I guess I always took the museum lighting for granted until we arrived here. In short, I t was hard to enjoy the works. The grounds outside of the building have walking paths and we enjoyed them, if only to escape the graffiti that permeates all buildings in Naples.

Beautiful art, access a little tricky

There are some stunning artworks on display at this huge gallery to the north of the city centre. Far too much to see in one visit. I wish I'd stuck to the 1st floor, which had some really interesting pieces. However, I was tempted by my timed access to the 2nd floor which you are ushered around in a group. Again, some fascinating pieces, but you can't go around at your own pace and so might be stuck in a room which doesn't interest you that much or moved out of one that does. Visitors with young children, and those with mobility issues were rather poorly served. This is no doubt a staffing issue as it only involved 2 people to show around 40 people rather than have a steward in each of the many rooms.
There are some marvellous things to see - recommended.
