70% 23 Reviews Tomatometer 81% 100+ Ratings Audience Score A complex case proceeds for a full season in this scripted drama, co-created by Emmy-winner Steven Bochco and newcomer Eric Lodal. Homicide detectives Terry English and Hildy Mulligan, partners in the San Francisco Police Department, head the investigation. English is a former Marine with plenty of experience as an inspector, while Mulligan is a sexy, self-assured officer who doesn't flaunt her attributes. Fellow SFPD colleagues are thoughtful David Molk and his tough partner, Edgar Navarro, and the squad supervisor is candid Lt. Jim Koto. Audience Member This series was guilty of killing me! Slowest murder mystery-crime series I've ever watched. Good productions could have covered the same plot in a third of the time this thing dragged on for. Boring as batshit ! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Perhaps the worst acting on TV. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member After all episodes all the writers could come up with was unwarranted and complete confession where the villain explained his own culpability to an associate who already knew everything, why would he do that? He knew he was being tapped but didn't even check his visitors mobile for an audio recording. Has he heard of Parabolic microphones? He was supposed to be a tech wizard. Sadly the ending was a cop-out. Rubbish and a disappointment to everyone watching. The Bochco franchise is dead in the water if this is the best that they can do. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Lost interest in 7th episode when Taye's character violated a suspect's rights that violated the show's basic concept....good police work requires good writing...they got lazy...terrorize an educated woman into talking without a lawyer present and confessing all. Holy Perry Mason! Lost interest Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Love the chemistry of the cast, feels comfortable. The ending luckily gives way easily for an even more interesting season 2...can't wait to see more! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member If you've seen any cop TV shows, you've seen this already. Nothing new or interesting, not as good as Law & Order, not really worth watching. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Tom Conroy Media Life If Bochco can re-create the twisty legal action that was a hallmark of [L.A. Law], Murder in the First will be worth the 10 hours. Jun 12, 2014 Full Review Mary McNamara Los Angeles Times TNT may be selling the single-case-per-season timeline of its new detective drama, but amid television's recent age of Aquarius, Murder in the First stands out mostly for its simplicity. Jun 12, 2014 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Diggs and Robertson ground the show in interesting characters at its core, allowing scene stealers like Schiff and Cromwell to do what they do so well. Jun 11, 2014 Full Review Jessica Johnson Time Out Chicago No notice is paid to the connection between the two partners, whose chemistry is so non-existent that they come off as people who just met each other. Jul 2, 2018 Full Review Noel Kirkpatrick TV.com The show is merely solid-albeit wholly unambitious-and when there are so many more exciting shows on the horizon, solid and unambitious don't really cut it. Jun 12, 2014 Full Review Roger Catlin rogercatlin.com Recent serialized yarns have surpassed this, which has the feel of a crime-of-the-week procedural but doesn't have the payoff at each episode's end.
