Carol Midgley Times (UK) If it weren’t for Allam’s handsome performance in Murder in Provence, I might have nodded off at times. Don’t get me wrong, it was gorgeous to watch, all those lovely French cameos a spa bath for screen-weary eyes, but, blimey, at times it was slow. Rated: 3/5 Jul 18, 2022 Full Review Sean O'Grady Independent (UK) One useful guide as to whether any given contemporary British television drama is worth watching is to see if Roger Allam is in it. If the show is mediocre he will make it more palatable. Rated: 4/5 Jul 18, 2022 Full Review Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk The show poses as an old-fashioned detective series, but is really a shamelessly sybaritic wallow in the glorious scenery, architecture and luminous blue skies of the Midi... However, it grows on you. Rated: 3/5 Aug 2, 2022 Full Review Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) Roger did not disappoint as Antoine Verlaque, investigating judge in Aix-en-Provence. Cidem Z The scenery, the foot, the chemistry between Roger Allam and Nancy Carroll lovely; between Patricia Hodge and everyone, great fun! Lots more please! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Jill L Enjoyed Roger Allam in Endeavor. Because of that and his laudable stage career, I decided to watch this show. Made it through episode 1. I won't watch any more. He's pretty good, but the dialogue is pretty bad. Uneven production values. Some of the outdoor scenes appear to be against a backdrop. Something's off about the extras/people in the background too - maybe there just aren't enough of them. His "girlfriend" (seems more permanent than the term indicates) is a forensic psychologist (?) but demonstrates none of her knowledge. It is weird that no one speaks French or has a French accent, just throws in a word of French or speaks a name with a French accent every once in a while. The plot is often advanced by having a character give a long history/explanation of what has happened rather than action. Sadly, Murder in Provence is not worth watching. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review Sherry M Whoever did the casting in regards to Keala Settle was so off the mark! Nancy Carroll and Roger Allam have a great chemistry and are great actors. British! Then you have this french cop who neither looks French or sounds French and do not at all have chemistry with any of the actors. Why??? would you cast her??? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review Stephen M I don't understand why this series wasn't more highly rated. It was an engaging, good quality production with good characters and the excellent Roger Allam did what he does best.. be Roger Allam. The biggest criticism of the show appears to be that the characters speak in English, normally. Perhaps these people would prefer the characters to wear berets, drape a string of onions around their necks and speak as though they're in sitcom Allo Allo. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/23 Full Review Eric B The characters are engaging and the principals enjoyably present grownup, caring , thinking and smart people engaged in matters of importance to them. The respect for victims and "perpetrators" is admirable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review carson t My only issue is that it's a French show with no French people in it, but other than that the stories are engaging, the characters are enjoyable and the mysteries are fun. I hope there will be another series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
