1953 Directed by Francis Searle
A police detective suspects that his sister's boyfriend is a murderer.
Solid if pedestrian English black and white B crime film coming in right at about 1 hour. Nothing spectacular but with a twist at the end that was more than a little silly. It begins with murder. A woman gets out of the taxi and goes to her door but before she gets in, she is robbed and murdered with a karate chop to the neck. The time is 3am. The music swells to a blast and the credits come on. Our hero is Inspector Peter Lawton who is at the Jewel Box Nightclub finishing up a drink and flirting with the singer. What an Inspector at Scotland Yard is out and about at 3am I can't say. But it…
A neat yet undemanding murder mystery starring Dennis Price and Peggy Evans (in her final feature before retirenent).
Whether Evans's boyfriend (Philip Saville) is a killer of women at 3am is the mystery, but the solution is rather ridiculous - even if it continues to be used in murder stories to this day.
A fairly competent quota quickie which makes few demands on the viewer, and even has a sneaky song near the beginning to give a bit of nightclub colour.
Who is this dashing young fellow, out all hours of the night (and morning), romancing a nightclub singer, and plying her with champagne? How the other half live, eh? He must be some kind of playboy to have the money to swill bubbly, and be up all hours.
Except that it turns out he's a copper. So that's what they get up to when they're not on the clock. Although it just so happens that he's gallivanting around town at the very time someone has chosen to murder a series of women, 3am.
The question on the mind of the lead detective on the case, though, is less who is committing these heinous crimes, and why, but what is their…
In this British crime drama directed by Francis Seale, a police detective suspects that his sister's boyfriend is a murderer.
The story concerns a Scotland Yard detective who is investigating a series of murders against women. Who is the murderer and why would he or she do these terrible things?
Dennis Price plays the role of Peter Lawton, the inspector who tries to find out what is going on, while Peggy Evans and Greta Mayaro give some support in their respective roles as Joan Lawton and Lena. Philip Saville plays a double role of Edward and Jim King. The acting is done to an OK standard and it’s not the only problems the movie has.
The direction from Seale is…
Fun little mystery with Dennis Price, excellent as always, as the detective. Great opening to the movie. And, even for 1953, perhaps the most hilariously gratuitous amount of smoking in any film in history. It's like this movie was written by cigarettes.
British crime melodrama with a tiny budget and even less suspense or action. For once, Dennis Price isn't a cad, but instead a Scotland Yard copper out to catch a violent thief. Everybody smokes 1000's of cigarettes.
Cheaply made thriller about a killer who strikes at 3a.m. It's efficiently and effectively done, though, with some atmospheric scenes, and is engaging enough to hold the attention for its short running time. Dennis Price plays the police inspector who begins to wonder if the culprit might be his sister's fiancé.

A great British made mystery thriller Murder at 3 A.M. is a twist filled, gritty mystery movie that leaves you at the edge of you seat almost the entire length. It's been a while for me, since seeing a mystery that has left me intrigued throughout it's entire length. The Brit's are always the best IMO when it comes to weaving great story line. This one does not disappoint.
ridiculous crime drama on a micro budget. most of it looks like it was shot on the edge of other sets for different films, especially as they always seem to talk so very quietly. entertaining though...
