If you've not indulged in the guilty pleasure of Mr. Mull's musical put-on's (The Blacks Are Giving Me The Blues or Jesus Is Easy)this one-disc compilation from the folks at Capricorn is a good starting point. This hard-to-find, hardly- marketed disc, unlike his LPs, seems to have sold out the entire pressing! Packed with witty, sarcastic, sardonic, politically-incorrect lyrics (yes, he does write words AND lyrics!)which would give Dennis Miller an inferiority complex. Great musicianship as well. Believe me, Capricorn could have pressed a three-disc set and it would have sold well. An additional gripe is that this disc is missing any selections from his ABC (I'm Everyone I've Ever Loved IS available on CD) or Electra or Verve recordings. Let's hope that Rhino or Hippo-Select will provide us with a complete "Oeuvre View" before we are all dead.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This is a collection of material from some wonderful albums by one of the finest musicians to do humorous music. Martin Mull was a musical legend before either of his other two successful careers (actor and artist). In the early 70's, Martin Mull proved that you didn't need to do parodies to be funny. My only criticism of this cd is.....it isn't two cd's. He has more than enough material for two, or even three cd's. The best tracks are "Dancing in the nude", Ventriloquist Love", "Normal" and "Straight talk about the blues/Ukelele blues" but every track on this cd is great. The musical genius in "Partially Marion" is undeniable. Have an open mind and this cd will amuse and amaze you.
What a great collection of early Marty. Sad so many people don’t even know this side of him. Quick shipment and reasonable price too!
