Classic Voice Of Rock Doing Classic Blues!!

Nice tribute and look back at some of the earlier Blues Classics that have had significant influence on Rock N' Roll as I know it today. Just recently discovered this effort by Paul Rodgers. Paul Rodgers voice seems to be synonymous with some of the best Rock of the '70s, with Free and Bad Company. I had the opportunity to witness Paul's vocals while part of the short lived Firm days with Jimmy Page. He's a great singer.

I think any Blues/R&B/Rock fan who's familiar with Paul Rodgers work with Free or Bad Company would find this effort enjoyable and entertaining. I wish I'd of known about it earlier as well. It's good some good smooth music on it. It also has a couple of Paul Rodgers written songs, Track 1 & Track 15, same song, first done acoustically, other is electric.

I'll also make mention of the Paul Rodgers release that lead me to learn of this one. "The Royal Sessions" '14, which is not as steeped in Blues classics, but is more of a tribute to some of the earlier classic R&B which was recorded the Royal studio in Memphis. It is also a well worth while effort.

You're probably thinking, "another album of rich white guys trying to play the blues?" This CD is different. Paul Rogers proves once again that he's among the greatest singers that rock has produced. Instead of trying to imitate the aesthetic of Muddy Waters or mimicking a vocal rasp and southern dialect, he covers these classic songs in his own style and delivers a spirited and authoritative performance. Backed by a pantheon of rock guitar gods, including Brian Setzer, Brian May, Gary Moore, Richie Sambora and Slash, the standout performances belong to Jeff Beck. On "Rollin' Stone" and "I Just Want To Make Love To You," Beck's playing is so hot, it's nearly combustible.

I first saw Paul Rogers when he was frontman for The Free (Alright Now) back in 1970 at the Olympic Ice Stadium in Munich, Germany. I had never heard anyone with such amazing stage presence as he and the band dazzled the thousands in attendance. Paul and drummer Simon Kirk then went on to become part of a new collaboration we all know and love as Bad Company!
This CD features Paul singing songs by the late, great, McKinley Morganfield (aka Muddy Waters), with some of the greatest guitarists on the planet, each belting out different Muddy tunes. Jeff Beck, Brian M. (Queen), Dav id G. (Pink Floyd), Brian Setzer, Trevor Rabin and other guitar gods we all love make this Paul Rodgers album one of my favorite cds of my collection. This one is a solid 10 !

Great vocals and superb guitars

Most great blues guitar albums have vocals that are not equal to the guitar. The late Stevie Ray Vaughn was the best blues electric guitar player from this country, and one of the best ever, but his voice left much to be desired, just to name one example. However, in this album you get one of the premier rock and roll voices in Paul Rodgers, who is fabulous singing blues, along with some of the greatest contemporary guitar players on the entire planet (and my favorites as well). Neal Schon, David Gilmour, Steve Miller, Jeff Beck. I have seen all of these fellas play live, and I love them all. And on top of it, the late John Bonham's kid plays the drums. Gotta like that.
