Movita Castaneda

Movita Castaneda was an actress best known for her roles in the films Mutiny on the Bounty, opposite Clark Gable, and Fort Apache, with John Wayne. She was also the second of Marlon Brando’s three wives.

Castaneda and Brando met on a movie set in the early 1950s. They married in 1960, had two children together and divorced in 1962.

MGM executives gave her the stage name of Movita, and she starred in such films as Captain Calamity, Paradise Isle, The Hurricane, Rose of the Rio Grande, Girl From Rio, The Mysterious Desperado, The Furies and Dream Wife, with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.

Castaneda’s last credit was playing Ana, the maid of Abby Ewing (Donna Mills) in 14 episodes of the 1980s CBS drama Knots Landing. She also had small roles on the television series The Adventures of Kit Carson, General Electric Theater and Conflict, and in two made-for-TV movies, Cool and Lam and Panic in Echo Park.

Castaneda died February 12, 2015, in Los Angeles. She was believed to be 98.
