Nancy Sinatra's first TV Special... which proves once and for all that talent skips a generation!

Billed as the "full-hour musical spectacular that won Nancy Sinatra the coveted Hollywood Star of Tomorrow award," this 1967 NBC-TV special, sponsored by Royal Crown Cola, is hosted by Nancy and features Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Lee Hazlewood and Frank Sinatra (billed as 'A Very Close Relative'). Brother Frank, Jr. makes a cameo appearance (and doesn't sing a note). Conspicuously absent from the program is Nancy's biggest hit: "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'".

From NBC comes a TV m7sical special featuring Nancy Sinatra Dean Martin & her dad, Frank. I loved that they aired it the way audiences saw it with RC Cola ads still in it.

"Come on over...to RC Cola...It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Cola!"
I live in a world where Nancy Sinatra came into existence fully formed in the year 1965 and suddenly disappeared in 1968 along with Lee Hazlewood. It is hard to be more quintessentially sixties than Nancy and the NBC special "Movin' With Nancy" is a perfect summation of that. The fashion, the songs, the Royal Crown Cola. It is all there.

I'm not really a fan of Nancy Sinatra but I do like this special from NBC. Her costumes are amazing and I dig the way they shot all of the songs. The highlight for me is the RC Cola ads (they sponsored the show) and her song with Lee Hazelwood "Some Velver Morning". Watched it on our own YouTube channel for Subscriber Saturday. Someone had requested to see if we could find a particular clip of Nancy on some show. We couldn't find that so we put us this special instead.

Ok those RC Cola ads are goddamn BOPS and I wanted to drink one for almost the entire show until the very end there’s an ad about how they’re made from the “cola nut” harvested in “plantations in Africa” and I was like WHOOPS NM
Also lol that song where Nancy walks around singing to a host of wall-size photos of Frank I was like… wait did he die halfway through this special… ?

Really a musical, visual joy.
The clothing, the color, the guest stars, the dancing, David Winters's choreography - it's stunning and exuberant. What a fun discovery.
My favorite numbers were "Who Will Buy," "Up, Up and Away" and "What'd I Say."
In an interview, Nancy Sinatra said she didn't want to do what she called a "boring" stage variety show. I'm glad she didn't. This was such a good time.

One of the most Sixties TV specials ever made, on a par with Britain's "Hold On -- It's The Dave Clark Five."
Truth in advertising: she rarely stops moving. Ditto Sammy Davis Jr., who makes with the footwork on a very fun version of "What'd I Say?". Lee Hazlewood spaces out with her on "Some Velvet Morning" though for my money their funny duet of "Jackson" is better.
Make sure you have some RC Cola on hand, because you'll be craving some.

Man this stuff rules.
People jumping in front of air balloons while Nancy sings Up, Up and Away, Lee Hazlewood riding a horse while singing Some Velvet Morning, Sammy David photographing while Nancy sings Ray charles's What'd I Say and Dean Martin turning mannequins in real people.
It's a time capsule of hippies and freedom of the youth influencing even big corporate sponsored specials. Movin' with Nancy half goes with that but for the other half is pretty traditional. Which isn't a bad thing at all, Nancy doing a wonderful version of Wait till You See Her while wandering around pictures of her father is strangely fitting even more it cuts to old blue eyes doing a studio version of…

It must have been an absolute trip to see this when it originally aired when everyone had the same three channels as their only options. It's still a trip seeing it now. It comes across as a relic of its time, but somehow it still feels kind of fresh. Instead of doing the usual variety show style of having performers lip sync in front of a studio audience, this is entirely prerecorded with all the songs done like stand alone music videos, mostly shot outdoors in various Los Angeles locations. Integrating choreographed RC Cola jingles between song numbers doesn't really cheapen anything. It just makes it all the more bizarre.
It's funny when people were suddenly bringing up "nepo babies" like that was ever anything new. This whole special is kind of a family affair with Nancy's brother, her dad, and his pals making appearances. It was also written and directed by sons of other famous Hollywood celebrities.

This television special originally aired on NBC and it was produced by RC Cola in an attempt to have Nancy Sinatra sell herself as well as their product.
MOVIN' WITH NANCY is a highly entertaining special that tries to be "current" and move Sinatra into a new crowd while at the same time also trying to reach older viewers by bringing in supporting acts like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr..
I think the only bad thing about this production is the actual RC stuff. There's a song about RC that is just downright annoying and perhaps my hatred of that drink plays into this. There's a local venue here that only sells RC and I can't help…
