Did our own tour by buying a ticket for admission and using map and signs to walk through estate. Did not have tickets ahead of time to mansion, so arrived in morning to buy those tickets, which ended up giving us mansion time 2 hours later. Plenty of time to walk around rest of estate. Be aware lots of walking. Had someone with mobility issues so we did use a wheelchair that was available for not cost at location. It was a big help for this person, but hard for the person pushing due to a lot of hills. Be aware you can’t do the mansion if you are unable to walk upstairs.

We really enjoyed the tour and seeing the working equipment; all the role players were excellent. There is no tasting with the regular tour.

Loved this area of Mount Vernon. Lot of history and details about Washington life. Worth spending some time and take pictures

Here is the tomb of George and Martha Washington. Other relatives were added decades later. Lot of important people have paid their respects

Great way to learn some history in it's natural setting. Docent tours are offered on the first Saturday of each month from 1 - 3 p.m. Docent volunteer was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions.
The church itself is still in use as a parish church, so this is living history! Interesting to see the architecture and furnishings (all restored since the Civil War destruction of the church interior) as they would have appeared when this was George and Martha Washington's home church.
The gift shop volunteer was kind and helpful. The adjacent cemetery reminds one of one's own fleeting place in history.
The tours are free but please do come prepared to make a donation, I imagine the upkeep on this piece of our history is not cheap.
