Rezension
Der Mega-Hit You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' fehlt also.

The Righteous Brothers (Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield) got their name from a concert when being applauded were told, "that was righteous brothers!", although the pair had previously been singing in smaller groups (Medley was in The Paramours and Hatfield was in The Variations). The sleeve notes quote that the pair had been influenced by many performers when growing up, and you can evidently see this in their recordings.
Their first single, 'Little Latin Lupe Lu' which was written by Bill Medley had been a top #50 hit , but there have been other successful cover versions over the years. There are other original versions on this album written either by Bill Medley or Bobby Hatfield, from 'My Babe' which is a nice Blues/Swing shuffle, the Doo-Wop inspired 'I'm So Lonely', in addition to 'Crying Blues' and 'B-Flat Blues to name a few. There are also cover versions of recordings from the likes of Ray Charles and The Everly Brothers too, putting the Righteous Brothers twist on them.
For me, the stand-out recording on here are 'Something's Got a Hold of Me' with Bobby Hatfield singing the vocals; its Rhythm & Blues, Rock 'n' Roll and even Gospel roots really show here, and is an all around great performance of the song. Their cover versions of Don & Dewey's 'Justine' and 'At My Front Door' originally by The El-Dorados are also well worth a listen, and their original recording of 'My Babe' as listed above is also one of the highlights on here. Personally, I'd say that their cover of 'Bye Bye Love' by The Everly Brothers isn't quite as good as the original, however that's not to say it's a bad recording, just a point to add in a balanced review.
There's a few sleeve notes included with a few valued quotations from Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield also included, plus some information about the records itself and from what album/single it's been sourced from.
After their Moonglow years, Phil Spector produced their biggest recording, 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'', giving the brothers a massive hit. Bill Medley then produced another big hit 'Unchained Melody' giving them a massive hit in the 1990s after a successful revival after being included in the film 'Ghost'.
For the casual listener who wants a Righteous Brothers album and is expecting the big hits such as the couple listed above, this won't be for you, however for fans of raw, soulful Rock 'n' Roll/Rhythm & Blues I'll recommend 'The Moonglow Years' by The Righteous Brothers; it's a side of The Righteous Brothers you probably didn't even know about.
