The tramway in Montpellier environment-friendly and colourful transport

The Montpellier tramway is the ideal means of transport to get around, to visit a number of tourist sites or simply to discover the city and the metropolis from a different point of view.

Design and haute couture travel

A bit of history

As well as being a gentle and eco-responsible means of transport, Montpellier’s trams are real works of art!

In 2000, with line 1, the designers Garouste and Bonetti announced the renewal of transport in Montpellier with their “swallows” design. It was impossible to miss this new tramway!

Inaugurated in 2006, line 2 with its multicoloured flowers is a testimony to the summer beauty of the Mediterranean landscape.

In 2012, Christian Lacroix designed lines 3 and 4 with a very contemporary design. He is both a great name in fashion and a man from the South, originally from the Camargue, who loves the Mediterranean Sea ! Octopuses, fish and starfish decorate line 3, while gold-coloured antique engravings decorate line 4.

Embark on a design and haute couture journey!

Did you know ?

The tramway of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole has been elected “most beautiful tramway in France” among the twelve largest French transport networks. In a poll published online by the daily newspaper 20 Minutes, the four tramway lines designed by Elisabeth Garouste, Mattia Bonetti and Christian Lacroix received more than 6,200 likes

In 2012, the New York Times had already described the Montpellier tramway as “the sexiest in Europe”!

The trams refer to the four elements: air with the white swallows on a blue background on line 1; earth with the flowers on line 2; water with the underwater decorations on line 3; fire with the trains on line 4 dedicated to the Sun King.

The lines

With its four lines and 84 stations*, the Montpellier tramway allows you to discover the city and part of the metropolis.

Like the many bus lines, line 4, which runs around the city centre, is an ideal way to discover the rich heritage that has enabled the city and the metropolis to obtain the ‘Grand site d’Occitanie’ and ‘Pays d’Art et d’Histoire’ labels.

The routes:

Line 1
Mosson/Odysseum

Line 2
Saint-Jean-de-Védas Centre/Jacou

Line 3
Juvignac/Montpellier/Lattes and Pérols

Line 4
Circular line to Près d’Arènes (Garcia Lorca)

There are also tramway/bus/parking/cycle interchanges, connections with bus lines and a Vélomagg’ service.
