Monopoly

Monopoly is the world's favorite family brand. The classic, fast-dealing property trading game welcomes the Cat into its family of tokens. After an online vote, fans around the globe decided the Cat would be the purr-fect addition to the Monopoly game. Put your token on the Go space and roll the dice to own it all in the fast-paced world of real estate. Make a move, make a deal and make a fortune to win it all. There can be only one winner in the Monopoly game; will it be you?

The thrill of bankrupting an opponent is addictive, but it pays to play nice, because your fortunes could change with the roll of the dice. Play nasty, and you might find everyone gangs up on you. Experience the ups and downs of the trading game with the classic Monopoly game. Collect complete color sets to build houses, and maybe even upgrade to a hotel. The more properties you own, the more rent you can charge. Chance cards could be worth money, or one might just tell you to Go To Jail. Take a trip around the Monopoly board to see who wins it all.

Buy, buy, buy at every location, location, location. Collect as many properties as you can, and make deals to get color sets. Build your houses and hotels, and see if you can bankrupt everyone else to win. Keep an eye on your money, because you never know when the dice will land you with a massive rent bill to pay. Sometimes staying In Jail can be the safest place to be, but only after your properties are primed to make you money. You've got to buy, sell and negotiate to win.

The game remains the classic competition with all your favorite properties to buy, and the same good (and bad) outcomes from the Chance and Community Chest cards. Roll, buy, trade, build and win. Collect color sets to start building houses and hotels to charge more rent. Bankrupt all your opponents to win. The Speed Die adds to the excitement, as big money starts to ebb and flow early in the game.

This modern version of Monopoly features a four-way fold board, the cat (debuted in 2013), and is made in USA (unlike the description that says "imported"). While this version does not have a money organizer, all the denominations do fit in a row if you line them up (as pictured). The houses and hotels are plastic (green and red), the dice are plastic and the board itself is of decent quality. While adults who have nostalgic memories of the older versions with less flashy colors and a bi-fold board maybe prefer the currently offered Classic version, many kids prefer this version because of the colorful & lively design.

I love this board game and when I saw a great sale on it, I had to have my own set for my new house. Board games are a great way to bond with friends or pass the time while unplugged, so great in a power outage. I am excited to introduce the product to my child when she gets a little older and can understand how to play the game. We may start with the junior version first for both of our sanity. We have a monthly board game night with a few of our friends and this is in the regular rotation. I have always preferred the classic game to the different versions, but if I found a deal on a zombie version, I may have to splurge and add it to my collection. Great classic game that everyone should own at least one copy of.

The rules of Monopoly, as far as I know, are passed down from generation to generation. Different tribes of peoples speak of different laws governing the play mechanics. I, personally, come from the "Pay All Fines To The Center Of The Board and Collect Them When You Land On Free Parking" tribe. In addition, I relish in the pain that comes from non-math oriented players attempting to determine how much of their hard earned (read collected on free parking) monies they have to pay when they land on Luxury Tax or pick Street Repairs from the deck.
This version destroys everything I held sacred in my tribe's worship of Monopoly. My 9 and 11 year-olds shout "No! That is not in the rules...the rules clearly state, blah blah blah". And they then point them out, printed ever so helpfully, on the little card-board insert that keeps the pieces organized when packed away. Damn you Hasbro, first D&D...now Monopoly...simply shameful.

For those who want to know how Hasbro has "ruined" this classic:
1) You now play with Monopoly money (it even has a new M symbol instead of the correct $ one)
2) All those % calculations that I loved to watch drive players insane and bring the game to a screeching halt...gone
3) Better graphics and more durable cards...what was wrong with felt?
4) Smaller dice (so now the 6 year old can play...wtf!?!)
6) Some bastardized red die that can be used to play a faster version...FASTER VERSION?!?!? Monopoly should last HOURS...nay DAYS!
7) Printed rules both inside the game box AND in the easily hidden/destroyed/lost rules book.
8) A !@#$%^ cat...seriously?!?! The FIRST thing I did was make the little Scottie dog chase that flea-bitten, allergy inducing, adorable kitten all the way to Jail (and not Just Visiting)

This is simply NOT the game I remember...it quite possibly might be a totally different game...at least it is still fun :)

Going through the reviews, I was in doubt whether to buy it or no. Since it's sold by Amazon, I decided to buy it. However, after buying it I found that it's quality is really fine, and the only thing that I didn't like is that it has a fourfold board rather than a bi fold one.
One side of the square board (which obviously has four sides) has a cut (profecianally made and looks nice) from the middle of the side towards the center of board to allow folding. This weakens it from centre, might also get it torn but less likely. That is the only thing that I didn't like. Rather than this it is almost perfect for me. And for the price of 7.84 $ I feel that I am obligated to give 5 stars.

This is a classic game I loved playing growing up. I purchased it this year as a new game for my family to play together during the holiday break. While we've enjoyed played this game, I'm a little disappointed that the board itself, started to tear after the first use. It's really frustrating that games are being cheaply made. Back in the day a game board would last countless uses before showing any wear, and this board gets used once and is already starting to fall apart.

The reason for the 4 stars, is aside from the cheaply made board, everything else is great. The pieces, cards, houses, hotels, dice and cards are all well constructed. We've enjoyed playing the game. I was very happy with the price and quick shipping from Amazon.

There are a lot of fun board games out there, but not too many that have more than 4 players. So a lot of times in our family, because of size, people have to sit out of the game.
