Monkey on Rico

This debut from Thermadore, two ex-Mary’s Danish members and a onetime Chili Peppers guitar tech, with help from friends Stone Gossard, Rain Phoenix, and Peppers drummer Chad Smith, bears the patchwork stamp of its lineage. But if half Monkey on Rico borrows too liberally from Pearl Jam’s twangier moments, the other half lays out some wistful Americana gems that should snare even ears that have heard it before.
