Tim Meadows is rooting for Travis Kelce's Saturday Night Live return!

In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE at Samsung 837 in New York City earlier this week, where he was joined by fellow SNL veteran Molly Shannon, the actor and comedian, 63, revealed that he would love to see Kelce, 34, return to Studio 8H sometime in the near future.

"He hosted once, and he did a great job. He was really funny," Meadows said. "I like him a lot. I think he's really funny."

"It's like, those athletes, they come in, and you are surprised how good they can be," the Mean Girls star added.

Kelce hosted SNL for the first time back in March 2023. At the time, he was joined by Kelsea Ballerini as the musical guest.

During his opening monologue, which featured numerous cutaways to his family — including older brother Jason Kelce and their parents, Donna and Ed Kelce — the Kansas City Chiefs tight end celebrated his 2023 Super Bowl win.

During the show, Kelce took part in various sketches, including one where he played an odd customer at the American Girl Doll store's café, and another where he portrayed SNL cast member Bowan Yang's "straight male friend."

Another memorable moment saw Kelce perform in a parody of Netflix's Too Hot to Handle.

According to Meadows, he and Kelce actually chatted online after the NFL star had channeled Meadows' iconic SNL character, Leon Phelps, on an episode of his podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.

"We sort of touched base with each other on Instagram because he was doing a 'Ladies Man' impression," Meadows told PEOPLE.

As for Shannon, 59, she couldn't help but gush over the geographical connection shared between herself and Kelce. "Travis is a Cleveland guy. Like me, I'm from Cleveland," she said. "I'm from Shaker Heights and he's from Cleveland Heights."

Saturday Night Live airs weekends on NBC.
