      Critics Consensus

Less biting or offensive than Korine's earlier works, this frustratingly dull film still maintains the director's trademark odd beauty.

isla s I feel like this is quite a good film but its just so surreal/quirky/bizarre that it's not a film I imagine everyone can/will enjoy but its not a bad film either. I'm sort of on the fence about it as some scenes I thought were quite good and plot wise it has a quite interesting storyline but it is one of those films which, having finished seeing it, I'm left wondering what I'm meant to take away from it. It is somewhat philosophical I guess, perhaps making you think about self identity, how we choose to run away from our humdrum lives and so on. Its a little too bizarre for me but it does work on one level or two. It won't appeal to everyone but I guess if it sounds of interest, then it may be worth seeing, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review anthony b Lacks emotional depth and the lack of character development is a problem but cinematically speaking Mister Lonely is beautiful, visceral, and spiritual. It's no Spring Breakers (which I loved) but Harmony Korine still serves up a fascinating visual feast. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Spring Breakers não representa Harmony Korine. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member meaningless tosh but hilarious, unintentionally, of course. The best flying nun film of the year, though. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member One my favorites from the last 10 years Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretensioso à brava, algo irritante e ocasionalmente afectado por tiques arty: "Mister Lonely" acumula todos esses defeitos e, ao mesmo tempo, é talvez o melhor filme de Harmony Korine desde "Gummo", ou a sua criação mais troll (adorável e estimável apesar do aspecto). Alissa Wilkinson Paste Magazine Besotted with its own playfulness, Mister Lonely gives off the distinct impression that it was a lot more fun to make than it is to watch. It is a noble effort, to be sure, and he deserves praise for that much... but it is still a failure. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 16, 2020 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row A film that exists squarely in its own peculiar reality, where the Queen of England sleeps with the Pope, eggs can sing, and nuns can fly. Rated: 3.5/4 Jul 6, 2019 Full Review Sarah Manvel Cinemattraction Mister Lonely could have been a sparkling, carefree character piece. Instead, partially due to its flat and mainly joyless visual style, it deteriorates into a sour mess that feels a lot longer than its 112 minutes. Aug 7, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
