r/AliceInChains
Alice in Chains (AiC) is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1987 by guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney, who later recruited bassist Mike Starr and lead vocalist Layne Staley. Starr was replaced by Mike Inez in 1993. William DuVall joined the band in 2006 as co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, replacing Staley, who had died in 2002. The band took its name from Staley's previous group, the glam metal band Alice N' Chains.

This is a really cool idea! I've made playlists of all the Boyce & Hart-produced songs recorded after the release of the first album, but before Headquarters. In my opinion, it's a very, very strong album. The original versions of Valleri, Mr. Webster, Words, Ill Be Back Up On My Feet, even Tear Drop City...a second Boyce & Hart produced record would have been a classic.
Thank you, there are still many songs from that time that I could squeeze into another album!
This *fictional* album of mine would have been released February- March of 1967. And "All of Your Toys" would have been c/w "The Girl I Knew Somewhere for a single. Link to fan-made playlist (Includes some alternates under the supervision of Kirshner, But I thought it made the album more interesting) YouTube Music
The Monkees unsuccessfully fought hard for "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" to be their next A-side single, as it showcased some independence, being written by Mike, and the group actually playing the instruments on the song. The record company opted instead for "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You," written by Neil Diamond (who had penned their previous single and chart-topper "I'm a Believer"), to be the A-side instead, with "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" settling for the B-side. I think if the Monkees would have had more control over their releases, I think "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" would have been the lead single instead of "All of Your Toys."
Probably, but this was more of a "what if". But I'm sure if they got their way after the first album, all of your toys would have gotten a single release (either a or b). This comment wasn't a statement, this album is unofficial and fan-made.
Is this speculation, or is this actual Monkees lore?
If they gained control over their music after the first album, something similar would have come eventually. This is really a work of fiction. All of Your Toys was in legitimate consideration, it just got turned down. I'm sorry if it came off as a statement, it isn't lol. So yeah, it could be considered a speculation!
A big factor in "All of Your Toys" being blocked was that it wasn't published by Columbia.
I think they'd probably keep "I'm a Believer" & "Steppin' Stone", & they'd definitely keep "Mary Mary" (at Mike's insistence) & "Sometime in the Morning" (at Micky's insistence).

I have made a more faithful adaptation which can be found here YouTube Music
So Neil Diamond would be known for I'm A Believer in this universe.
