The dogs were extremely skinny/unhealthy looking. I witnessed a group of 8 people on one sled ride. The dogs kept stopping because they were unable to pull all that weight so the handler had to go and pull on the lead dog to get them moving again. That same group of young men were yelling at the dogs which only confused them and made them stop several times on their ride. The musher should have NEVER allowed that many people on one ride or allow anyone to verbally abuse the dogs.We watched that same group of dogs have to pull many more sleds after that and the dogs were exhausted. It was a very sad situation and I can only imagine the treatment they get at home.Thunder Mountain Dogsled should be reported for dog abuse on many levels!!! Sad sad situation!

It was a snowy New Years Eve and my husband and I walked the entire lake round. Apxx 2.7 miles it's an easy flat terrian lined with beautiful Adirondack houses to look at. Free ice skating is fun. Dog sled rides are available. The Main Street down town Lake Placid lined with shops and restaurants all over look the lake. Good at any season of the year. We've spent long weekends in Lake Placid over the past 30 years for little mini-vacations

Mirror Lake is still as beautiful as we remembered from 25 years ago, but the area didn’t feel the same. It’s all hotels. And it’s under construction now so there is only 1 lane through town, and parking is difficult and fee-structured. We did drop-off shopping. The other side of Mirror Lake is still peaceful. Travel a few miles to see beautiful, peaceful lakes and ponds.

This lake which borders downtown Lake Placid is a real gem. It is gorgeous. Often the clouds are reflected in the still water. It is peaceful because they don't allow motorized boats. That leaves a lot of room for stand-up paddleboards, row boats, kayaks, etc.
On July 4th they also do a great fireworks show at 9:30pm (from the park at the southern end) which you can see from just about anywhere on the lake. I took some amazing photos of the fireworks reflected off the surface of the lake. I have also taken great shots over the lake (from the great Golden Arrow resort) at sunrise (around 5:30pm in summer).

Mirror Lake is absolutely lovely. At times during the day it is just like a mirror with waters reflecting its surroundings in the calm water. The lake is great for swimming, canoeing or other water activities. One may stroll around the lake on sidewalks and through Lake Placid. Staying on the lake is magical, and sunsets reflecting on the lake are spectacular.

Stayed on mirror lake for two weeks. Very calm and peaceful except for the very loud persistent all night croaking frogs - needed ear plugs or closed windows at night. The breeze was strong enough to keep all bugs away. Great lake for very easy paddle boarding, paddle boating, kayaking, canoeing. Lots of perch abound in the not at all deep lake. The walk around the lake is 2.4 miles and takes about an hour at a very leisurely pace since about 1/4 goes through town on sidewalks lined with shops and people. Most people wear masks and all are polite. Ducks abound, an occasional goose and a great blue heron visited once. The public restroom is clean.

We stayed at Hampton Inn and Suites at the southern tip of the lake for 3 days. Every single day we walked around the lake...so serene with stunning views.
We had a top floor balcony, so our views of this lake were absolutely incredible at all times of the day, and it was pretty cloudy and rainy weather our entire trip!
The paved walking path is completely finished at this time. We did wear masks whenever anyone was near. We really enjoyed the section thru the homes in the area. Quaint.
There is access to Lake Placid at the northern end of the walking path.
This is a not to be missed activity!!

Beautiful and quite lake in the heart of lake Placid. Wonderful for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding. No motorized boats allowed so the lake is always calm and quiet. I have also been here in winter when the lake is all frozen and you can go dog sledding, snow shoeing, ice skating or just plain walk across it. A real beauty!

Put on a pair of sneakers, grab your water bottle, sunglasses, bug spray, and sunscreen. Go for a walk around Mirror Lake. Metered parking is available across the street. Have your credit card handy, and clean your hands afterwards. Public restooms are available. As the sidewalks are undergoung major renovation in July, there will be times that you must walk on the road or cross to the other side. Use caution, as there is much uneven terrain. Wear your mask when you are unable to socially distance. Enjoy the spectacular views.

A gem in the heart of the Adirondacks, it’s possible to rent kayaks, paddle boards and bikes to enjoy the lake. Two mile walking path around Mirror Lake, stellar views. A wonderful place to spend time

Many ways. There is a public beach by the ice rink end of town if you are just day tripping through. Sometimes they have a slide to go down but not sure this year with COVID. Some hotels have beaches and I recommend Golden Arrow for budget minded or Mirror Lake inn for those wanting top notch resort. The other way to go is renting a house on other side of lake that has beach access. Plenty of options.

How late into March and April does the lake stay frozen for activities on it. Understand, it's weather dependent, but generally speaking, is the lake still frozen the first week of April?

We were able to swim the course at any time during the week. It is so cool that you can clearly see and follow the cable! Good luck!!

Yes, that is one of the reasons we went to the area. Many hotels are pet friendly as is the town.

Are we able to bring our own kayaks to Mirror Lake? If so, where would we be able to put them in?
Thank you,

There is a small sandy beach where you should be able to take your kayaks to embark. parkside Street would be your nearest street.
Is there snowshoeing there? If so are there rentals and what is the cost?

How can you go about finding out about the dog sleds? Can you make a reservation? Will they still be running in February?

Dog sled rides are on mirror lake right out the back door of the Golden Arrow hotel and right next to the toboggan slide. Can't miss them.
We did not need a reservation. Just walked up, paid the sled owner and had a great ride.
How do you access the 2.7 mile path around Mirror Lake
Bob R
Lancaster, PA42 contributions
The path is more of a "sidewalk" that wraps around the lake. Walk out the front door of any of the buildings on Main Street lake side and start walking in either direction. It is literally that simple!
