Acclaimed author Neil Gaiman shared a brand-new update regarding the current status of Good Omens Season 3. This comes after over four months since the fantasy comedy series had successfully secured a third and final season renewal from Amazon MGM Studios.

While discussing the after-effects of last year’s Hollywood strikes, Gaiman opened up about the three upcoming shows based on his popular literary works, including Prime Video’s Good Omens Season 3. Speaking with Deadline, Gaiman confirmed that Good Omens fans will have to wait longer for the final season since they’re currently targeting an early 2025 production start for Michael Sheen and David Tennant-led fantasy comedy. "You know, Dead Boy Detectives comes out in 10 days. I’ve seen half of Sandman Season 2, and it’s astonishing. I’m writing Good Omens Season 3, and we start shooting that in January," he revealed.

Michael Sheen Was David Tennant's 'Attack Dog' on the Good Omens Season 2 Set
Good Omens Season 2's Michael Sheen recalls how co-star David Tennant relied on him to resolve issues that arose during filming.

Good Omens is based on Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s acclaimed 1990 novel titled, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. The series follows the story of unlikely best friends angel Aziraphale (Sheen) and demon Crowley (Tennant), who have lived on Earth since the beginning of time. In an attempt to preserve the lives they’ve enjoyed on Earth, they’ve teamed up to stop the biblical apocalypse from happening. The series also stars Jon Hamm, Doon Mackichan, Gloria Obianyo, Liz Carr, Quelin Sepulveda, Miranda Richardson, Shelley Conn and more.

According to Gaiman, the final installment will be based on his and Pratchett’s originally planned sequel, which would continue following Aziraphale and Crowley’s efforts in preventing the end of the world. "I'm so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006. Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end," he said in a statement when the Season 3 renewal was announced. "Season One was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. Season Two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren't talking."

Besides Good Omens Season 3, Gaiman’s The Sandman is also slated to come back for another season on Netflix, following its successful series debut last August 2022. The second installment, which is still currently in production, will feature returning cast members Tom Sturridge as Dream/ Morpheus, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Donna Preston as Despair, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, and Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne. In addition to The Sandman, Netflix is also producing a TV adaptation of the Dead Boy Detectives, based on Gaiman and Matt Wagner’s DC Comics characters of the same name. The upcoming supernatural comedy will also take place in The Sandman universe, following the story of best friends Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), who, after escaping from hell, start helping ghosts solve their mysteries. The series will start streaming on April 25 on Netflix.
