I initially came to Mira Loma for its academics, the IB Program and everything. It's been pretty tiring these past few years working for the IB Diploma, but it's not so bad thanks to the clubs and events we have on campus. I look forward to every Asian Culture Festival because the whole day is full of fun activities and showcasing cool things about everyone's cultures. International Night is also great, I've been attending as a club officer helping sell things for my clubs and it feels like a little night market. International Night also has fun performances!
Life at Mira Loma high School is split into 2 distinct groups, those who are a part of the IB program and those who aren't. With little interaction between the two groups I can only talk about the half of the culture that I know, the IB half. In my experiences, Mira Loma is a very diverse high school where you can meet people of various gender, race, and religion making it an ideal condition to expand your horizons and learn about all kinds of people. Unfortunately, the school breeds a rather competitive environment for the students in the IB program and tends to care very little about the mental health of the students who have little time to do anything other than study, most students opting to rather than enjoy their breaks, apply for educational camps or take summer courses to get any kind of edge they can over their peers. I would love to change both the divide within the school as well as the mindset in the students that taking a break for even a day means falling behind.
I have two kids at Mira Loma. Teachers, especially the IB Program, prepare students to be successful in college.
