"Myage" a fastpaced rocker right from the start, love the lyrics and the singer's voice too. "I wanna Be a Bear" another fast paced rocker, very short only 42 seconds. "I'm not a Loser" good guitar work. "Parents" a classic song about rebellion. "Tony Age" very short at 56 seconds. "M-16" I'm pretty sure this song was written before in another age judging by the title and lyrics, another very short one at 43 seconds. "I'm not a Punk" a funny song that sure sounds like punk rock, logging in at 1:04. "Catalina" sounds like a breakup song, punk style of course. "Suburban Home" this song talks about going against the stereotypes of the modern world. "Statue of Liberty" our classic Lady Liberty and the mystery surrounding her. "Kabuki Girl" think this is something Japanese from the lyrics and maybe a lady of the night or something like that if you get my drift. "Marriage" a song about marriage with these guys reasons for marrying. "Hope" a song about the singer's romantic hopes for the future. "Bikeage" not sure what this song is about from the title, lyrics include something about a needle in one's arm. "Jean is Dead" no idea who Jean was supposed to be, but a very good song nonetheless. Overall, very good songs and a very good album. I love the guitar work, lyrics, and the sound of the singer's voice. Some very short songs, almost all under 2 minutes, and a few under one minute. I loved every song , a great punk album.
This originally came to my attention as a suggestion on YouTube during Fugazi's "13 Songs" CD, as well as Minor Threat's "Complete Discography". On the first listen, I thought is was too immature. It hooked me just enough to want to listen more, and I began to appreciate just how important this is in the lineup of Punk. Influenced by The Ramones and Sex Pistols (I know, pretty much all Punk bands are.), as well as Sham 69 and (early label mates) Black Flag. Descendents in turn influenced Suicidal Tendencies, Green Day, and The Offspring. Yes, Milo really did go to college, graduating from the University Of California At San Diego with a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. (Fun Fact: Dr. Milo is described in [though not the influence of] the Dead Kennedy's "Well Paid Scientist".)
NOW THIS IS PUNK ROCK! NOWADAYS, PEOPLE LISTEN TO FALLOUT BOY, AND BLINK 182, AND GREEN DAY THINKING THAT'S WHAT PUNK IS SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE, BUT THEY ARE DEAD WRONG! THIS IS PUNK! THIS IS AS PUNK AS PUNK CAN GET! THIS IS SO PUNK, IT SIMPLY CAN'T GET ANY MORE PUNK! PUNK! For the record though, I'm being serious. This album is the balls. Get it or something.
This album was responsible for my love of the Descendents. It's punk rock the way it should be: loud, fast, fun, and the entire album clocks in at under 30 minutes. Milo has a very distinct voice, and the band has a distinct sound. They have and continue to influence many bands, and listening to this album will show you why. This album is fun for your ears.
