Woods-16x9

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Miles Wood to a six-year contract through the 2028-29 season.

Wood, 27, appeared in 76 games for the New Jersey Devils this past season, recording 27 points (13g/14a) and equaling his career high in assists. He added two points (2g) in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games and scored his first career postseason goal in Game 2 of New Jersey's second-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes on May 5.

A fourth-round (100th overall) selection of the Devils in the 2013 NHL Draft, Wood has collected 148 points (78g/70a) in 402 career NHL contests, all with New Jersey, and served as an alternate captain for two seasons from 2020-22. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound left wing set career highs in goals (19) and points (32) during the 2017-18 season. He also appeared in all five of New Jersey's Stanley Cup Playoff games that year, making his Stanley Cup Playoff debut on April 12, 2018 at Tampa Bay. He missed the majority of the 2021-22 campaign with a hip injury.

In his first full professional season in 2016-17, Wood played in 15 contests for New Jersey's American Hockey League affiliate, the Albany Devils, recording eight points (4g/4a) in 15 games of what would be his only AHL action. Prior to turning pro, Wood skated for Boston College for one season, tallying 35 points (10g/25a) in 37 games to help the Eagles win the Hockey East regular-season championship.

Internationally, the Buffalo, New York, native represented his country at the 2016 IIHF World Championship, recording one point (1g) in 10 tournament games. He also suited up for Team USA at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, skating in five games.

Wood's father, Randy, was a left wing who played 741 NHL games with the NY Islanders, Buffalo, Toronto and Dallas from 1986-97.
