Mike Schmidt talking to Vanessa Shelly, Five Nights at Freddy's film

Michael "Mike" Schmidt is the main protagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's film. He is a poor man who decides to take the job of the night-shift security guard for the abandoned Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place.

He is portrayed by Josh Hutcherson as an adult and Wyatt M. Parker as a child.

Description[]

Riddled with guilt over a tragedy in his past, and now struggling to take care of his younger sister on his own, Mike is low on options when he lands a new job to pay the bills; the night security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. Mike is vulnerable with a tough exterior. Though he means well, his obsession with digging for truth may have potentially disastrous consequences.[1]

Appearance[]

Mike presents as a young, light-skinned male with brown hair and eyes. During his interview, he dons a grey shirt paired with a yellow tie, reflecting a simple and practical wardrobe. He also tends to have a big tired face, due to his messy personality and lack of sleep throughout the night.

Personality[]

A down-to-earth individual, Mike's primary focus is earning a living and safeguarding his younger sister, Abby. Despite his genuine care for Abby and those close to him, like Vanessa, his past trauma has left him emotionally drained, manifesting as apparent indifference. His restless and low-energy demeanor is a consequence of his struggles with sleep, plagued by frequent nightmares surrounding his little brother's disappearance, even years after the incident.

While he is unafraid to voice his opinions and stand up for justice, Mike sometimes acts impulsively, as demonstrated by a past altercation that cost him his job as a security guard. He challenges Vanessa and Aunt Jane when he suspects deceit, driven by a deep-seated mistrust. Although occasionally prone to anger, such as the incident with the mistaken kidnapping, it is a rare occurrence, typically reserved for moments related to unraveling the truth about his brother's disappearance or confronting William Afton.

History[]

Mike was born in 1975. At the age of 12, Mike experienced the abduction and tragic demise of his 4 year old brother, Garrett Schmidt, at the hands of William Afton in 1987. His family's camping trip turned into a nightmare, leaving Mike scarred by the loss. Following this, Abby was born, unaware of her older brother due to Mike and their parents' silence on the matter. Subsequent family tragedy, including the death of their mother and the potential abandonment or suicide of their father, further compounded Mike's hardships. He works at multiple jobs, such as a sales associate for "Tire Zone" and a custodial staff for Media World before getting fired. He ends up working at a mall with his co-worker Jeremiah. Manipulated memories, orchestrated by the spirits of William Afton's other victims, would later push Mike towards a fateful decision involving the fate of his sister's soul.
