After 14 terms, Rep. Mike Doyle is retiring from a House district in and around Pittsburgh. On Tuesday, the candidate that Republicans nominated to replace him was . . . Mike Doyle.

They’re not the same person. The current House member is a Democrat. His potential replacement is a Republican.

Mr. Doyle -- the Republican -- is the council president in Plum, a borough near Pittsburgh. He was unopposed in the GOP primary but has an uphill battle in November in a district that leans Democratic.

Two candidates were leading in incomplete vote totals Tuesday in the race for the Democratic nomination: state Rep. Summer Lee, a prominent progressive, and lawyer Steve Irwin, who backs a more centrist course.

In case anyone was wondering: Mr. Doyle has not endorsed Mr. Doyle. The congressman has already said he backs Mr. Irwin.
