An exciting young motorsport talent, Mick Schumacher joins the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team in the role of Reserve Driver for the 2023 season.
Starting out his motorsport journey racing karts in 2008, Mick progressed through the ranks and achieved numerous strong results including podium finishes in the 2014 CIK-FIA World and European Championships in the KF Junior category. He graduated to single-seaters and Formula 4 in 2015, tackling the ADAC Championship where he claimed his first victory in cars at Oschersleben.
Mick continued in Formula 4 for 2016, once again competing in the German championship but also expanding his duties to include the Italian championship too. He impressed throughout, finishing runner-up in both series with five wins, and four pole positions apiece in each and a combined 22 podiums.
This success precipitated a step up to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship for 2017, with a podium finish at Monza the season highlight. In his sophomore year in the category, Mick came into his own and claimed the title after a stunning run of results to conclude the year, including a remarkable string of five consecutive victories.
Formula 2 beckoned for 2019 and once again, after a debut year spent learning and honing his craft Mick claimed the title in his second season in the category with two victories and eight further podium finishes. Whilst racing in F2, he also got his first taste of F1 machinery as he joined the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy and drove on the first day of the in-season test at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Mick graduated to the top-level of motorsport as a full-time race driver for 2021, joining the Haas F1 Team. After a debut season spent mostly racing his team-mate towards the back of the field in a tricky car, the 23-year-old was able to show his skills more frequently in 2022. After making it through to Q3 for the first time in his career at the Spanish Grand Prix, Mick claimed the first points of his F1 career as he came eighth in the British Grand Prix. He backed up this strong result just a week later by claiming a career-best finish of sixth in the Austrian GP.
For 2023, Mick joins the team where his father Michael, a seven-time F1 world champion, raced between 2010 and 2012. He will play an important role in the ongoing development of the W14, conducting regular work in the simulator at Brackley alongside attending all Grands Prix as part of his role.
