Donald Glover and his wife, Michelle White, are going strong.

The pair were first spotted together in January 2016 during a vacation to Hawaii, and they have since welcomed three sons together.

Glover, also known as Childish Gambino in the music industry, is very protective of White and their family — preferring to keep their private life out of the spotlight.

“I don’t think life is real unless some things are just for you. Things that should not or cannot be shared,” Glover said in an interview with himself for Interview Magazine in April 2022. “I think the younger generation is going to have a hard time distinguishing whether something is for them or for others, and I think it could play out as a diminished sense of self. You really have to know what you would do if no else was watching.”

In January 2024, Glover confirmed that he and White had wed and told PEOPLE that he used intimate details from their marriage to make his TV series Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

I think there's a lot of little things where I took them from my own life. I felt like what made this show sexy is intimacy, so I wanted to do that," he said on the red carpet.

So, who is Donald Glover’s wife? Here’s everything to know about Michelle White and her relationship with the musician and actor.

She and Glover are married

Glover and White have been together for nearly a decade. According to E! News, the pair were first spotted together in January 2016 of that year while on a trip to Hawaii. Though White was unidentified at the time, she was visibly pregnant with their first child.

Since then, the couple have maintained a long-term partnership. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in August 2017, the Atlanta star said that while he does believe in love, he doesn’t believe in marriage.

“It doesn’t serve the purpose that I would want it to serve,” he told the outlet.

Still, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at The Lion King premiere in July 2019, while discussing his son’s interest in the movie, the actor referred to White as “my wife.”

In January 2024, while at the New York City premiere of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Glover confirmed that he and White were married. He then shared details of their spontaneous nuptials with The Hollywood Reporter — revealing that the couple wed amid his hectic shooting schedule.

"There was a day where I don’t think we had to be on set until noon or 1, so, I was like, 'Can we get married today?' I got married in the morning," Glover recalled.

"We had a real wedding afterwards, too," he added. "[That night, though,] we went to our favorite restaurant, and then [White's] parents and my mom were waiting for us at the house."

She’s a mom of three

Glover and White are the proud parents of three boys.

They welcomed their first son, Legend, in 2016. However, the musician didn’t reveal their child’s name until the following summer, when he sang a track off of his Childish Gambino album Awaken, My Love! at the Governors Ball.

“This song is dedicated to everybody in this crowd and my young son, Legend,” Glover told the crowd before performing “Baby Boy.”

A few months later, Glover announced that he was expecting his second child with White during his acceptance speech at the 2017 Emmys. “I want to thank my baby, my son, for just being the joy in my life,” he said. “I want to thank my unborn son — we’re listening to Stevie [Wonder] tonight.”

In January 2018, Glover confirmed the birth of his second child to PEOPLE but did not provide any details about his name or his birth date. That same month, he also updated Entertainment Tonight about White's health post-birth.

“She’s great. She’s good,” Glover told the outlet. “Baby’s born, so she’s happier now.”

The couple became parents for a third time during the COVID-19 pandemic, Glover revealed in a September 2020 GQ interview with actress Michaela Coel. The star shared that his youngest son is named Donald after his father, who died in 2018, and was born amid the nationwide protests over George Floyd’s death.

"It was such an intense, weird moment, because I’m watching that video and it’s like eight minutes long, so you’re sitting there and I had just had this amazing, joyful, expanding moment, plus my dad had passed away recently, so [my son] was named after my father," he explained. "I don’t even know what, really, the word is to describe it. It was just expanding: the empathy and compassion and the terror and the joy of it."

During the interview, Glover also spoke about potentially expanding his family again after Coel mentioned that she was freezing her eggs.

"That’s great. I feel like it’s gonna become more and more [common]. Because I’ve actually had that thing where I’m like, 'Maybe I should just get a vasectomy and just freeze those assets,' " he said. "Because adopting kids, my family adopting kids ... And we actually have been talking about [it], because we have three boys so I’m like, 'Oh, it might be nice to get a girl in there.' So I think all those are great options. But it is hard."

Although Glover rarely speaks about his relationship with White publicly, he makes sure to give her a shout-out in his award acceptance speeches.

In January 2017, the star took home the Golden Globe for best actor in a TV series, musical or comedy for his role in Atlanta. His moving acceptance speech included a brief nod to his partner and son.

"I really want to say thank you to my son, and the mother of my son, for making me believe in people again and things being possible," he said. "So, thank you."

Glover also mentioned White and their sons in his second speech at the 2017 Emmys, where he took home the awards for outstanding director of a comedy series and outstanding lead actor in a comedy series.

On March 14, 2023, the private couple made their first red carpet appearance together at the Los Angeles premiere of Swarm.

White wore a black off-the-shoulder dress with a ruched bodice, which she paired with nude platform heels and a classic red lip. Glover opted for a more vibrant look in a pastel yellow shirt and matching trousers, which he accessorized with cream-colored loafers and gold chains.

While this was the couple’s red carpet debut, they were previously photographed inside the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in 2022 and 2023, as well as the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2018.

The pair appeared together again on the red carpet for the New York City premiere of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in January 2024.

She’s very supportive of Glover’s career

In addition to the occasional public appearance, White is encouraging of Glover behind the scenes.

The Swarm creator told PEOPLE in January 2018 that fatherhood hadn’t changed his lifestyle too much because of White's dedication to their family.

“I think my partner, she does all the hard stuff, to be honest,” he said. “She’s just very supportive. I haven’t really had to change anything. But it’s given me definitely another perception on what life is. It gives me a lot of context.”

White also provided Glover with a lot of support when his third season of Atlanta received a high volume of criticism in 2022. Speaking with GQ in April 2023, he said that he was upset over the backlash, which prompted meaningful words from his partner.

“You do punk things, you get punk results,” he recalled White telling him.

She’s not on social media

Despite her partner’s high-profile career, White prefers to stay out of the spotlight and has no public social media accounts.

Glover has accounts on Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter), but only shares photos of his work.

Recently, he wiped both of his accounts to feature one post about the job openings at his new multimedia studio, Gilga.

Their marriage inspired his show Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Speaking to PEOPLE at the premiere of his Prime Video series Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Glover shared that he used very personal inspiration for the show's depiction of a realistic marriage.

“There's a lot of scenes that are kind of just taken from my life," the actor said. "You know my wife's hair is like, it's not kinky, it's long and I was in the shower and I was like, ‘What the hell is this?' Because she likes to take it and put it on the shower walls.'

He continued explaining the story while laughing, “I was like, ‘Yeah I think we have rats or something.’ I said that to her as a joke but like I really didn't know."

Glover said moments like these inspired both the funny scenes and the fights in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which stars him alongside Maya Erskine. “When you're living together you just kind of don't realize these things are super normal to me but they're not normal for you," he added. "I feel like there's a ton of that in the show.”

She and Glover have attended numerous high-profile events

Glover's fame gets him invited to Hollywood's biggest events — and White is often his plus-one.

In March 2024, the couple attended Vanity Fair's Oscars afterparty. White dazzled in a plunging black gown, while Glover looked ultra-chic in a red suit.
