Michael J. Weithorn is set to direct ‘Connescence’ next. The shooting of the feature film will start later this month in New York. The movie revolves around Stan and Cynthia, two individuals in their 50s whose paths converge during moments of disillusionment in their lives. In an unexpected turn of events, they discover a unique, humorous, and heartwarming connection that not only defies their expectations but also revitalizes their spirits. The filmmaker also penned the screenplay of the project.
Weithorn, a prolific writer, director, and producer, is best known for creating the enduring sitcom ‘The King of Queens’ with David Litt in 1998. The show, which ran until 2007, revolves around a deliveryman named Doug Heffernan and his life’s comedic intricacies, amplified when his quirky father-in-law Arthur moves in with him. He made his directorial debut in 1991 with an episode of the show ‘True Colours.’ Weithorn’s creative spectrum extends to animation, co-creating the Comedy Central series ‘The Adventures of Baxter and McGuire’ in 2006. In 2010, he wrote and directed the feature film ‘A Little Help,’ a comedy-drama exploring the aftermath of a husband’s sudden death. Weithorn’s recent directorial venture includes the short comedy film ‘The Sidekick.’
Weithorn’s initial foray into writing occurred with an episode of the television series ‘Benson’ in 1981. Despite being offered a chance to join the original writing team of ‘Late Night With David Letterman’ in 1982, he chose to collaborate with producer Gary David Goldberg on the latter’s new series ‘Family Ties,’ for which he served as a story consultant, producer, and/or writer of over 120 episodes. Concurrently, he penned episodes for other TV shows, including ‘Cheers.’ Weithorn created ‘South Central,’ ‘Ned and Stacey,’ and ‘Weird Loners’ for Fox. He served as a consulting producer and writer of twenty-four episodes of ABC’s renowned sitcom ‘The Goldbergs’ and fourteen episodes of its sitcom ‘Schooled’ as well.
Fibonacci Films and Goldcrest Features teamed up for the production of the movie. New York, the principal location of the film, earlier hosted the production of several of last year’s major releases, including ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ ‘Maestro,’ ‘Past Lives,’ and ‘The Killer.’
