The Doc Martin actress, 52, and the EastEnders star, 61, proved their romance is still going strong more than 20 years after meeting on the show.

The pair met when they were both starring the 90's ITV drama where Michael played Eddie Santini and Caroline played Rosie Fox.

The couple looked smitten together as they held hands while walking through central London.

Fans of the long running BBC soap EastEnders will also remember Michael as gangster Andy Hunter who feuded with some of the biggest villains in Walford.

Back in 1998, Caroline played a character named Rosie in the long-running ITV police soap, The Bill.

She kept the role until 2000 and during her time on the series, she worked alongside Michael, who played PC Eddie, over the same two year period.

They fell for each other on set and married in 2007.

They have two children together - Sonny, 22, and Honour, 17.

Caroline's other roles have included parts in All Quiet on the Preston Front, The Vice and DCI Banks.

But she is best known for starring opposite Martin Clunes in Doc Martin - a show about a doctor based in Cornwall.

The couple are very private but in 2015 she did give an insight into motherhood as her kids entered their teenage years.

She said: 'As much as I loved my own children's baby stage, I'm very happy with the way things are now that they are older. I'm loving watching them blossom and grow.

'Becoming a mother is like walking through a portal. You see things in a completely different way and it changes you profoundly – something that no one explains to you beforehand.

'It also adds layers to you as an actor and you can relate to parts in ways you didn't before. I'd definitely say the roles became more interesting after I had my children.'

During the chat she said of meeting Michael on the show: 'Michael and I met when we worked together on The Bill in the late 90s, although we didn't marry until 2007, when we already had the children.

'Marriage to another actor means that there is no explanation needed for what you do. That's pretty refreshing.'

Speaking in 2015 about their children growing up around Doc Martin, she added: 'The set is home from home and it's been such a privilege for them to spend so much time in this beautiful landscape.

'Sonny was only three when we shot the first series and she's 14 now, about the same age as Martin's daughter Emily.

'Having spent so many summer together, they're now great friends.'
