The City of Pearl officials announced in a Thursday press release that a police officer has been fired after a video appears to show the officer "bullying an arrestee into licking his own urine off of the floor."

According to Public Information Officer Therese Apel, the United States Attorney's Office unsealed "criminal information" against former patrolman Michael Christian Green on Wednesday.

The incident is said to have occurred on Dec. 23, 2023.

The city provided the video to the FBI.

"When the City discovered this disturbing incident over the Christmas weekend, it quickly opened an internal investigation," Apel writes in the news release. "By December 27, 2023, Officer Green was relieved of his duties."

According to the press release, the city has engaged Attorney Candace Gregory, a former federal prosecutor and director of Mississippi’s Public Integrity Division, to supplement the city’s internal investigation. Gregory is said to be in the process of reviewing the police department's policies and procedures along with providing training assistance.

"To be clear, this incident is beyond deplorable to City officials. Michael Green does not represent the values and standards within the Pearl Police Department. The charged actions have both embarrassed and dishonored the faithful officers who serve and protect our City every day," the statement concluded.

Green is said to be facing a charge. The details of his charge at this time are unknown.
