Mia Kovacs killed in automobile crash

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The 22-year-old daughter of singer Edie Adams and the late Ernie Kovacs died early Saturday after the car she was driving drifted off the road and overturned, California Highway Patrol officers said. Mia Kovacs was pronounced dead at West Hills Hospital at 3:45 a.m., said county coroner’s Investigator Philip Spada. Miss Adams, who was in Biloxi, Miss, to be a judge in the 1982 Miss USA Pageant, returned immediately to Los Angeles, pageant officials said. CHP Officer Richard Singer honored LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Outstanding Working Mother of 1982, Debby Boone, spent Mother’s Day in the stage lights of the Los Angeles Music Center, where she’s starring in the Broadway-bound musical, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” Miss Boone, 25, won the award for her enthusiasm for mothering and her wholesome quality TV shows and songs, said Kay Kuzma, president of Working Mothers. Miss Boone’s husband and son, Jordan Alexander, 22 months, travel with her when she performs. Her most famous hit is the crooning, “You Light Up My Life.”

McMillan said the small foreign car drifted onto the shoulder of Mulholland Drive about 1 a m. and hit a dip. A passenger, Bradley Pearson, 25, of Woodland Hills, suffered minor injuries in the accident, McMillan said. Spada said Miss Kovacs suffered multiple injuries in the accident. The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash. The young woman’s father, comedian Ernie Kovacs, died in a traffic accident Jan. 13, 1962 in Santa Monica.
