When I received the dictionary, there was a large ,thick crease down the front cover as if someone took a peek into the book bending the hard cover without bending the hinge/joint. And so, I gave this review a 4 stars instead of 5.

I am currently teaching a science unit on forces to Grade 5/6 students who are English Language Learners AND who have significant gaps in their schooling history. So I was particularly looking for a dictionary that included science terms as I am going to make them find a “word of the day” on a page that I opened ahead of time. Tomorrow’s word will be “force” and they will hit my answer buzzer when they’ve found that word on the page. Then we will review the definition.
Besides comprehensively covering seemingly every topic and subject matter under the sun, this dictionary does so in clear fonts that are large enough and easy to read. There is a good balance of “white space” for contrast. In addition, there are colour pictures to illustrate some words but there are not so many that the pages appear “busy.”
I haven’t had a chance yet to admire all the extra features, but one that I really like, and that I know students will find helpful is the alphabet printed vertically at the edge of each page, with the beginning letter highlighted for the words in that particular section.
