      Audience Member A film about growing and knowing. Even pupil love can bring out the biggest things. This is young actress Tracy Hyde's first feature film starring next to the stars of Oliver Twist, Jack Wild and Mark Lester. Danny and Tom are schoolmates. Melody is the eye of Danny's affection. The both of them fall deeply in love despite being so young. They even want to wed as soon as possible. But everybody else doesn't grasp their unique bond. Tom even thinks his best friend is crazy going forward with such a thing fearing he'll lose him to love. As you'd expect the adults aren't too keen about the idea either always putting obstacles in their way like school teachings, future prospects, career paths instead of letting them be kids. Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom came to my mind watching this. It's got that whole young prepubescent love thing going on against big odds. But the whole main premise doesn't start until an hour into the film and the boy and girl barely exchange a sentence with one another. Feels like they put it off for a while. Still this soundtrack by The Bee Gees is very good, the kids are extremely well-talented for their age, and the movie looks at the difficulties of kids on the road to growing up in the world. Why is it so difficult to be happy young or old?, can you really love someone for so long in a short amount of time?, how can we recognize our priorities when all we want is to be happy? Childhood friendship, conflict, and romance are gathered into a wistful evocation. A cute example of puppy love that grows as fast as these children do. The opening song ('In the morning', by The Bee Gees) is full of poetry, images, feelings. Is a very good introduction for the images we´ll find and we´ll love so much in this film. This movie has a soundtrack of original Bee Gees and even an iconic Crosby Stills Nash and Young song that a generation used as their anthem. Today this movie still moves me in a cute, young love, innocent slice of life that (to me) was very typical British school life in the 60's/70's. Jack Wild at his peak. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member As a very young teenager when I first saw this movie, I think it formed what love was all about (at least what young love was, anyway) for me. A very unknown movie in North America, it seems, I will always see this movie as a classic growing up movie like no other. And the early Bee Gees soundtrack was absolutely perfect. I still watch it time to time but not because it's quite as relevant now but because it so easily takes me back to my young days when love was new an unexplored. And not many movies can do that.
