I received this book in the mail today along with it’s compan ‘Fun with nature’. I love them already.

This book is a good size, nice hard cover, beautiful illustrations, easy layout full of illustrations, simple but informative descriptions, simple activities, it’s a really nice introduction to nature for children. I got this for my 2.5yr old but I can see it being used well into elementary school and possibly longer. I was originally looking for something more like a true field guide for kids with photographs, how for the price and variety of information you get with the two ‘fun with nature’ and ‘more fun with nature’ books I’m very happy with this purchase. We can, and do rent field guides from our library but this is a nice reference to have at home and read through. However if you’re looking for something really detailed or a true field guide this is not for you.

Added some photographs of a couple pages to give you a feel of the book including the table of contents. It really is beautiful and sturdy with thick glossy pages!

Find it to be very interesting and well written. Nice page layouts, too. I was hoping to give this to my great granddaughter but she is 5 and this would be a bit overwhelming for her. I am not even sure my 9 yr old granddaughter could truly handle reading this book, yet. I would say the child should be at least 10 to be able to go off on their own and use this "More Fun with Nature" book. As an adult, not real acquainted with all the subjects in the book, I found it to be something I could use.

We picked up this book, along with its companion, Fun With Nature, before a series of family camping trips to several National Parks. The kids used the book to identify Juniper and discover why they were finding it at Bryce Canyon (the rocky soil). From then on my six-year-old daughter kept this close by, just waiting to identify her next find. The kids were on the lookout for birds at Yellowstone, rocks in the Badlands, and they are currently using the book in their attempts to identify fossils that they have been finding here on the shores of Lake Huron. A great book that is making itself useful in our family. …And for those who care (because I know there are those out there who do) there are only one or two mentions of millions of years in the “Fossil” section of the book and none in the “Rocks and Minerals” section. Thankfully, the authors stick mostly to observational facts.

I love these nature guides. Lots of pictures and lots of info. My kids love them because they contain a lot of commonly found items or animals. Now for someone who is looking for tons of different kinds of birds or tons of different kinds of bugs, this probably wouldn't work. But for someone who has kids who just want to walk around outside and just see what you can find - this book contains a lot of common stuff and I sure you will find some things outside that is listed in this book. My kids and I have really enjoyed them. We have both of these large books in this series. I recommend having both if you can get them.

I bought this book for my grandson who isn't quite two after a day in the woods . The book itself is heavy and has to be seen as a reference book that an adult would be reading to their child. There is an incredible amount of information in the book. The book is likely best for 3+ - 7. Yr. olds but there really isn't a book for toddlers that identify birds etc as well. I'm hoping he'll grow into it. The illustrations are colourful and accurate. I also bought him the 2nd volume because we saw chipmunks which he was quite interested in. The book identifies several different species of chipmunks. Who knew?
These are great reference books and I expect that they will be well used over a period of years.
