The Mean Girls (2024) movie is bringing Tina Fey’s Broadway adaptation of the 2004 Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, and Amanda Seyfried comedy to the big screen. Mean Girls, also written by Tina Fey just before the mid-00s, rewrote the blueprint for teen movies, especially those aimed at predominantly female audiences. Over a decade later, Fey brought the hilarious story to Broadway as a musical, which enjoyed a successful run from 2017 to 2020.
Next, the writer and producer is bringing the franchise full circle with a movie version of Mean Girls that adapts the stage version. Already tipped for release in 2024, Mean Girls will be arriving 20 years after Tina Fey’s first screenplay was adapted into the movie which launched the careers of Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and many more. With a cast that includes members of the Broadway run and a few returning faces from Mean Girls, the anticipation for Mean Girls (2024) couldn’t be higher.

Mean Girls (2024) Plot
The plot of Mean Girls (2024) follows both the original 2004 film and the Broadway musical with all three written by Tina Fey and based on the 2002 Rosaline Wiseman novel Queen Bees and Wannabes. The plot focuses on Cady, a teenage girl who grew up in Africa due to her parents working there. She then moves to the U.S. and has to integrate with the population of the local high school. She quickly notices how similar they are to the wild animals studied by her parents — and how easy it is to become one of them. All the key events from the Lindsay Lohan movie happen in the stage musical, and it stands to reason that the new movie will follow the same structure. This includes plenty of the Plastics and, above all, Regina George being pure evil. Mean Girls (2024) will feature multiple songs from the Broadway production, though it’s unclear which will make the cut.
Mean Girls (2024) Trailer
The November 2023 release of the Mean Girls (2024) trailer was perfectly timed and offers just the right amount of exciting build for the film's January 2024 release. Specifically crafted to pull on nostalgic heartstrings, the trailer not only reveals the familiar plot and reintroduces recast characters, but also shows that the overall look of the first film is preserved in the musical remake. The 2-minute teaser didn't include any of the Broadway show's signature tunes, but the film will feature an as-yet undisclosed sampling of tracks from the stage version.
