The Noël Coward short story this BBC television film is based on has recently been adapted into a full stage musical which has toured Europe to great success. It's easy to see why. Despite the story's relative obscurity, it offers a window into every part of Coward's genius: as a humourist, as a dramatist, as a songwriter, the classicist and the modernist, the purveyor of cosy comedies and the acid-tongued provocateur. It's all in this tightly packed 55 minutes.
