PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Oregon 6A State Player of the Year McKelle Meek has committed to the University of Portland women's basketball team and will join the Pilots as a freshman, announced head coach Michael Meek. McKelle, who was a four-year starter at Southridge High School in Beaverton, helped the Skyhawks win a pair of state titles.

"We are very excited to officially be adding McKelle to our great incoming 2020 recruiting class," coach Meek said. "McKelle has a plethora of high-level experience and is a team-first type player. It has been great to see her game evolve, overall leadership skills expand, and her overall game develop throughout her high school career. McKelle will bring great worth ethic, competitiveness, high court IQ, and the ability to score on all three levels."

Meek, a point guard, averaged 23.3 points per game as a senior, and she scored 30 or more points in a game six times. In addition to being the Oregonian's State Player of the Year, Meek was also the 2019-20 Gatorade State Player of the Year, she landed on the all-state first team, was voted the Metro League's Player of the Year, and she was named first-team all-league. She also earned first-team all-league as a junior, and earned all-state honorable mention recognition, and she was second-team all-league as a sophomore. Meek led the Skyhawks in assists all four years, and she was tops in steals the past two seasons.

The Skyhawks won the state championship during Meek's freshman and sophomore campaigns, they finished second her junior year, and this past season they advanced to the final eight.
