I got many gifts watching Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise.
She was honest, clear, willing to protect Grace, standing strong in depleting the power fed by vulgarity, she stood for true love, unity and having her voice save lives, triumphing over her 7-year-old self denying its expression due to trauma, and knowing her perpetrator died after she told the truth. She blamed her voice, her seeking support to heal, and she spent 5 years in silence, until that caged bird was caged no more and her voice is touching me here and now, even as she is free, brilliant, a Great woman now pure Spirit, singing.
But this film that delved very deeply into her life, her philosophy, her ethos, her psyche, and her soul has captured my spirit more than anything has in a very long time.
You know that question you often see floating around - "If you could have dinner and a one-on-one conversation with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?"
Now I can say without a shadow of a doubt, my choice would be the Late Dr. Maya Angelou.
Please watch this film. She is unquestionably the 'real deal' and despite the fact that she has left us, she never will.
And Still I (She) Rise. Therefore, everyone here watching shall always remember that EVEN through the darkest, needless and offensive ratings / reviews -more importantly remember HER LIGHT shines brightly through it all because she is the moon, sun and stars. SHE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! Her light is bright, RARE and true.
