Bayern Munich vs. FC Cologne - 13 April 2024 - Soccerway
GOALLLLL! MULLER SCORES! 2-0 BAYERN! That will do for the hosts! Three Cologne players leave the ball for each other outside the box, with Waldschmidt then heading it straight through to Muller. He is one-on-one with Schwabe and curls his effort into the bottom-left corner.
90' +2
CHANCE! Bayern break away on the counter and should score! Laimer races down the left and has Kane to his left inside the box, but he puts too much power on his pass, and the opportunity is gone. The flag then goes up for offside.
90' +1
There will be five minutes of additional time.
88'
Waldschmidt is over a corner on the right, with his inswinging corner getting punched away by Ulreich under pressure from Downs. The Bayern goalkeeper has commanded his box brilliantly today and has not gifted Cologne anything.
85'
Bayern have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 10 Bundesliga games. Since the start of the calendar year 2001, Bayern have only once gone more games without a clean sheet – 11 games between October 2020 and January 2021 under Hansi Flick. Currently, only Hoffenheim (23 games) are longer run without a clean sheet than Bayern in the top flight. They are doing well so far and have restricted Cologne to just three shots in the second half, worth an xG of only 0.09.
83'
Muller does fantastically well to save Dier, after his poor pass went straight to Finkgrafe outside Bayern's box. He unleashes Musiala, who breaks forward and rushes across the edge of Cologne's box to get a shot away. He cannot work the space, so finds Muller, but he cannot decide what to do and the chance is gone.
81'
Tel switches over to the left and plays a one-two with Muller before lifting a cross towards the back post. Davies saves it on the byline, cutting it back to Goretzka, who shoots wide of the right post.
79'
K. Laimer enters the game and replaces Raphaël Guerreiro.
L. Goretzka enters the game and replaces A. Pavlović.
Guerreiro scored a brilliant opener for Bayern and is now being replaced by Laimer for the final stages.
Bayern make their second change to their midfield, with Goretzka coming on alongside Laimer to form the same partnership that started against Arsenal. Pavlovic is off.
77'
Cologne's corner is poorly cleared by the Bayern defence, with Schmitz collecting the ball outside the box. He has space to get a shot away but drives his strike straight at Ulreich.

Description
76'
D. Downs enters the game and replaces F. Alidou.
D. Heintz enters the game and replaces J. Thielmann.
Alidou had a huge chance to break the deadlock in the first half but sent his effort wide of the left post and is now coming off for Downs.
Thielmann has been brilliant at right-back for Cologne and has kept Tel quiet for long periods. He is coming off for Heintz.
73'
Tel asks a lot of Davies with his heavy pass down the left towards the byline, but the Bayern man uses his pace to try and keep it on the pitch. He tangles with Thielmann and attempts to earn a corner, but the referee points for a goal-kick. The Canada international is furious with his decision.
72'
Alidou attempts to trick his way past Kimmich on the left, but the Bayern right-back pokes it behind for a corner. Waldschmidt then sends the following cross into the box, with the hosts heading it clear.
69'
Bayern have scored 19 goals from set-pieces this Bundesliga season. Cologne have scored 12 of their 23 goals from set-pieces (52 per cent) – the highest proportion in the top flight. The hosts were finding it difficult to find a way past Schwabe, but Guerreiro did so brilliantly with his shot from range. Now the Billy Goats will have to come forward more to get back into the match, which will help Bayern.
67'
S. Tigges enters the game and replaces S. Adamyan.
B. Schmitz enters the game and replaces L. Maina.
Maina is also given a rest after an energetic performance on the right side of the attack. Schmitz is on.
Cologne make another change to try and get back into the match after conceding. Adamyan has been quiet in the second half and is on a yellow card, with Tigges taking his place.
65'
Raphaël Guerreiro has scored a goal for Bayern Munich! Assist by J. Kimmich.
Kimmich has put most of his corners into the box so far but goes for a different route this time. He spots Guerreiro outside the box and fires the ball into his feet, with the Portugal international doing the rest with a brilliant strike from range.
GOALLLL! WHAT A HIT FROM GUERREIRO! 1-0 BAYERN! The hosts take a deserved lead! Kimmich is over a corner on the right and drives a low pass towards the edge of the box to Guerreiro. He switches the ball onto his left foot and curls a shot across the goal and beyond Schwabe.
63'
CHANCE! Tel usually goes on the inside with his right foot but now he drives down the wing to get past Thielmann and whip a low cross into a dangerous area. Muller attempts to get across, but the ball goes just past him as he slides across.
62'
Bayern make a straight swap at left-back, with Davies coming on for Mazraoui. Davies should offer a fresh pair of legs on the wing and help Tel attack Thielmann, who has performed well for Cologne at right-back.
61'
D. Upamecano enters the game and replaces M. de Ligt.
A. Davies enters the game and replaces N. Mazraoui.
Bayern make their third substitution. De Ligt has been composed at the back but is now coming off for Upamecano. The hosts might want to rest him for their Champions League quarter-final next week.
60'
Tel pokes a clever pass through to Guerreiro, who looks for Mazraoui on the byline. However, he gives the left-back a lot to do, with his cross deflecting back against him off Thielmann and behind for a goal-kick.
58'
Bayern recorded their sixth defeat of this Bundesliga season in their last outing (2-3 at Heidenheim) – the most they have lost in a full season in 12 years (seven in 2011-12). Five of those six defeats have come in the second half of the season. They have controlled most of the contest but have been caught off guard by Cologne on the counter a few times and have been fortunate not to concede.
56'
Finkgrafe rolls past Muller down the left and drives into space, with Muller shocked that nobody is behind him. The Cologne left-back then flashes a low cross into the box, with De Ligt sliding across to clear it behind. He is then congratulated by Dier, who knows how importance of that interception.
54'
L. Waldschmidt enters the game and replaces F. Kainz.
Cologne make their first change to try and turn the momentum in their favour. Captain Kainz is off for Waldschmidt, who scored the winner in their last match.
51'
OVER! Musiala is involved immediately after coming on! Mazraoui has the ball outside the box and threads a pass through to Guerreiro, who drops it off to Musiala. The substitute then works the ball onto his left foot before lashing his shot over the bar.
50'
J. Musiala enters the game and replaces K. Coman.
Bayern can now make their change with the ball off the pitch. Musiala comes on soon after the half-time break, with Coman forced off with an injury.
46'
Bayern get the ball rolling again. The hosts will be more than fine if they continue to create the same level of opportunities as they did in the first half.
45' +2
HALF-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 0-0 COLOGNE
45'
There will be one minute of additional time at the end of an enthralling first half.

40'
With 80 goals after 28 games, Bayern have scored the most goals in this Bundesliga season. Cologne, on the other hand, have the fewest in the top flight with 23 goals – only once have Cologne scored fewer goals in 28 games, in 2001-02 (17) in a campaign that ended in relegation. The hosts started very slowly, but deserve to be ahead after creating an xG of 1.11 from their six shots. Cologne have gone quiet and are sitting in a defensive shape.
36'
S. Adamyan gets yellow.
Adamyan stops Guerreiro from breaking forward and goes into the book.
31'
Kimmich sends an inswinging corner from the left towards the back post, with Dier knocking his header back into the middle. Kane is there, but he cannot get any power or direction on his effort, allowing Schwabe to collect it.
30'
L. Maina gets yellow.
Maina is the latest player to go into the book for Cologne.
28'
Guerreiro takes the following corner short to Kimmich, who sends a low pass into Muller. The veteran then tries to flick the ball over a defender's head to get a shot away but is forced back.
26'
Muller sends a loose ball down the right to Coman, but the Frenchman has enough time to recover the attack and looks back to Kimmich. The right-back then whips a left-footed cross into the box, but it is headed behind for a corner.
24'
Over half of the opening 45 minutes have gone, with Cologne having the two biggest chances to score so far. Bayern have struggled to create anything and have only had one shot, with Tel's effort worth an xG (expected goals) of only 0.05.
22'
Tel has possession just outside the box and looks to go past two defenders before poking it through to Guerreiro, but the ball gets stuck under his feet, and the chance is gone.
18'
Cologne ended a run of seven Bundesliga matches without a win last time out (drawing four and losing three) with a 2-1 home victory over Bochum. However, Cologne have only won one of their previous 15 away league games (drawing eight and losing six) and are winless in seven away games (drawing five and losing two), with five draws in a row recently. They have been doing most of the defending so far and are allowing Bayern to have possession, but the Billy Goats have had the best chance to score so far with one of their only attacks.
16'
Bayern have made a lot of short passes on the ground so far, but Pavlovic looks to unlock Cologne's defence with a chipped ball down the right side of the Billy Goats' box. Guerreiro breaks away and attempts to flick a header back to Kane, but the visitors clear the danger.
15'
Coman dribbles down the right and looks to beat his way past Finkgrafe to get into the box, but the left-back recovers brilliantly to win possession.

Bayern work the ball down the right through Coman, who offloads a pass to Kimmich. The right-back then finds Muller on the touchline, but he sends a left-footed cross high over the bar.
7'

Christensen is shown an early yellow card for a late side tackle on Kane, who had pushed the midfielder before being taken down.

It will be interesting to see how Bayern start this contest after making seven changes, with head coach Tuchel probably seeing their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal as a bigger priority.

Cologne get this Bundesliga clash under way.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and Cologne at Allianz Arena.
Bayern's 11-year reign as Bundesliga champions is close to ending, with the Bavarians losing back-to-back matches in the top flight to give Bayer Leverkusen a 16-point lead at the top of the table with just six games remaining. As a result, Xabi Alonso's men will lift the title if they beat Werder Bremen tomorrow and could also clinch their first-ever Bundesliga if Bayern lose this match and Stuttgart lose to Eintracht Frankfurt. Bayern's last defeat encapsulated a frustrating season domestically, with Thomas Tuchel's men leading Heidenheim 2-0 at half-time before losing 3-2 after a goal from Kevin Sessa and a brace from Tim Kleindienst. However, the hosts have performed well in the Champions League and drew 2-2 with Arsenal in the first leg of their quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium, and will be hopeful of completing the job at home next week.
Cologne have struggled in the Bundesliga this season and could be relegated to the second tier of German football for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign. Timo Schultz's side won for only the fourth time this season in the top flight in their last outing, with Steffen Tigges and Luca Waldschmidt scoring late goals to help them come from behind to beat Bochum 2-1. Cologne remained in 17th position, one place above the bottom, but a second successive win could see the Billy Goats move into the relegation playoff position as they are just one point behind Mainz. However, Cologne must improve their form on the road as they are winless in their last seven outings on their travels (drawing five and losing two), with their only away win this season coming against Darmstadt, who are bottom of the league.
BAYERN MUNICH SUBS: Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-Jae, Leon Goretzka, Eric Choupo-Moting, Bryan Zaragoza, Daniel Peretz, Alphonso Davies, Konrad Laimer, Jamal Musiala.
BAYERN MUNICH (4–2-3-1): Sven Ulreich; Joshua Kimmich, Matthijs de Ligt, Eric Dier, Noussair Mazraoui; Aleksandar Pavlovic, Raphael Guerreiro; Kingsley Coman, Thomas Muller, Mathys Tel; Harry Kane.
COLOGNE (4-2-3-1): Marvin Schwabe; Jan Thielmann, Timo Hubers, Jeff Chabot, Max Finkgrafe; Jacob Christensen, Dejan Ljubicic; Faride Alidou, Florian Kainz, Linton Maina; Sargis Adamyan.
Bayern are unbeaten against Cologne in 19 Bundesliga matches (winning 17 and drawing two) – against no other current Bundesliga club does Bayern have a longer unbeaten streak. Indeed, this is Cologne’s longest ongoing winless streak against a side in the top flight. Both teams are on the pitch and are ready to get started.
Bayern have lost their last two Bundesliga matches and were sloppy in the opening 20 minutes of the first half, but were excellent after that and should have the lead. Tuchel's men created an xG of 1.47 with their nine shots, four of which came from Kane. The hosts have also had 70.7 per cent of the possession and will score in the second half if they maintain this level of performance. As for Cologne, they have done better than their 0.44 xG suggests. The Billy Goats have been a constant threat on the counter and would have the lead if they were more clinical in front of goal. Finkgrafe has created two of their massive chances at left-back with brilliant crosses, as well as making five tackles.
