Early Life and Career Beginnings

Matthew was raised by his parents in Hickory, where her father worked as a Baptist minister. He grew up as the youngest among six children with three brothers and two sisters. At a young age, he developed a strong interest towards pursuing a career in acting. After a string of television movies, he appeared in 1997’s “Justice League of America” which was intended to be a pilot for a CBS series that was unsuccessful.

The following year, he had his first film role in “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” playing Will Benson. The slasher film is a sequel to “I Know What You Did Last Summer” with many of the main cast members of the previous film reprising their roles. The film follows the story of a stalker who follows one of the previous film’s survivors to the Bahamas with the intent of killing them. After this project, he worked on movies such as “Crime in Connecticut: The Story of Alex Kelley”, and “The In Crowd”.

Band of Brothers and Rise to Fame

In 2001, Settle got one of his most prominent roles in the miniseries “Band of Brothers”, based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Stephen E. Ambrose, produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. It follows the history of Easy Company which was a part of the 506^th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101^st Airborne Division. The group participated in numerous major actions in Europe until the end of World War II. Some of the identities of the men they portrayed were later shown. The show was successful in winning Golden Globe and Emmy Awards for best miniseries.

Following this success, he had multiple episodic roles in both “The Practice” and “CSI: Miami”. He was also cast in “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood”, and had numerous film projects over the next few years. In 2004, he became the host of the television show “Decisive Battles”, which depicted several historic conflicts using the game engine of “Rome: Total War”. He also had a role in “Until the Night”, a drama starring Norman Reedus.

Gossip Girl and Recent Projects

After roles in “Brothers and Sisters” and “Wedding Bells”, Matthew then became a main cast member of “Gossip Girl” in 2007, a role which got him a Teen Choice Award. The show is based on the book series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar, and ran for a total of six seasons. It follows the story of upper class adolescents living in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Other stars of the show include Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Kelly Rutherford and Peen Badgley. He stayed with the show for its entire run, doing a few film projects in the process. The show proved highly successful, leading to adaptations outside the US.

After the show, he was cast in the horror film “Ouija” which was the directorial debut of Stiles Whitem and starring Olivia Cooke and Daren Kagasoff; the film was a commercial success. He also had roles in “Marshall the Miracle Dog” and “The Faith of Anna Waters”, which is another horror film starring him alongside Elizabeth Rice. It was billed as the first supernatural feature of Hollywood set in Singapore. One of his latest projects is a guest appearance in “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders”, marking a return to television after “Gossip Girl”. The show aired on CBS, and is a part of the “Criminal Minds” franchise.

Personal Life and Social Media

For his personal life, it is known that Settle eloped with actress and model Naama Nativ, marrying in 2006. The have a child together, but their marriage only lasted until 2011 when they divorced. He also has a child with another woman, though details about her and the child have not been specified. Since his first marriage, there have not been any new reports about romances coming the public’s way. He also once had a relationship with actress Kelly Rutherford, who was his on-screen wife during “Gossip Girl”. One of the reasons he got into acting school was on the recommendation of lawyer Jay Julien.

One of the reasons there is very limited information about any of his past and present personal endeavors is due to the lack of any strong online presence. He has an account on Twitter with almost 50,000 followers, but he has not been active on site since 2016. The same can be said for his Instagram account, with over 150,000 followers, on which he became inactive at around the same time. He hasn’t taken any new acting projects since that year, and it is not known if he is taking a break, or has stepped away from acting all together.
