Former Offensive Coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans

In 2014, LaFleur served as a quarterbacks coach at the University of Notre Dame and returned to the NFL coaching career in 2015. He was a quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In 2017, he served as an offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. He served in the same role for the Tennessee Titans in 2018. As a part of the team of the offensive staff, LaFleur helped their teams rank in the top 10 in total yards seven times during his first ten seasons in the NFL. He then started serving in the current role as a head coach for the Green Bay Packers on 8 January 2019.

Who is Matt LaFleur?

Matthew Patrick LaFleur began his collegiate career at Western Michigan University as a wide receiver in 1998 and 1999. He then transferred to Saginaw Valley State University, where he played as a quarterback from 2000 to 2002. After a collegiate career, he played in the National Indoor Football League with the Omaha Beef in 2003 and with the Billings Outlaws in the following season.

LaFleur launched his college coaching career at age 24 as an offensive assistant at Saginaw Valley State University in 2003. He then worked as a graduate assistant at Central Michigan University in the 2004-2005 season. 

In 2006, he served as quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at Northern Michigan University. He served as an offensive coordinator at Ashland University in Ohio the following year. 

In 2008, Lafleur began his NFL coaching career after being hired by the Houston Texans as an offensive assistant. During his two years of tenure with the Houston Texans, he assisted wide receiver coach Larry Kirksey and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kyle Shanahan.

After that, he served as a quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins from 2010 to 2013. During that time, rookie Robert Griffin III whom he coached in 2012, became the first QB in the Washington Redskins’ history to receive ‘AP Offensive Rookie of the Year’ and the first Washington rookie QB to receive the ‘Pro Bowl’ honors.

In 2014, LaFleur served as a quarterbacks coach at the University of Notre Dame and returned to the NFL coaching career in 2015. He was a quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In 2017, he served as an offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. He served in the same role for the Tennessee Titans in 2018.

As a part of the team of the offensive staff, LaFleur helped their teams rank in the top 10 in total yards seven times during his first ten seasons in the NFL.

He then started serving in the current role as a head coach for the Green Bay Packers on 8 January 2019. In his first two seasons with the Green Bay Packers, the team made a pair of 13-3 records and won two NFC North titles. 

Age and Family

Matt LaFleur was born on 14 November 1979 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. His age is 42 years as of 2021. 

His father, Dennis, was a starting linebacker on Central Michigan University’s 1974 NCAA Division II championship-winning Central Michigan Chippewas football team. Dennis served as a defensive assistant coach for the Chippewas for 22 seasons from 1976 to 1997. He also served as the head coach and assistant coach at Mount Pleasant High School in Michigan.

LaFleur also has a younger brother named Mike, who is currently serving as the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel, LaFleur earns around $5-5.5 million per season as per his contract with the Green Bay Packers.

Wife and Children

LaFleur is married to Breanne Maak, whom he met at Central Michigan University. 

The couple has two sons. They welcomed their first son, Luke, in 2011. Their second son, Ty, was born two years later, in 2013.
