Match of the Day (often abbreviated as MOTD) is the BBC's main football television programme. Typically, it is shown on BBC One on Saturday evenings during the English football season, showing highlights of the day's matches in the Barclays Premier League. It is one of the BBC's longest-running shows, having been on air since 1964, though it has not always been aired regularly. The 'Match of the Day' brand is also often used for live football coverage on the BBC. They run a competition called Goal of the Month, choosing the best goal each month, where the winner from there will then be entered into a goal of the season award.

Gary Lineker presents highlights from the day's matches in the Premier League. Reigning champions Manchester United will aim to do the double over Everton for the third time in four years when they visit Goodison Park. Sunderland inflicted a surprise defeat on Arsenal when the sides met at the Stadium of Light in November 2009, so Arsene Wenger's team will look for revenge. Wolves fans will be nervous ahead of their match with Chelsea, given that the Blues have scored 14 goals in the teams' previous three meetings, including a 5-0 victory on their previous visit to Molineux. Tony Pulis takes his Stoke side to face his old club Portsmouth, while relegation rivals West Ham and Hull meet at Upton Park. Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson are in the studio to analyse the play.

Gary Lineker introduces goals and highlights from Saturday's Premier League fixtures. Former Italy team-mates Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Mancini have faced each other other as managers in the Milan derby, and here they met for the first time as Premier League bosses, with Ancelotti's Chelsea hosting Mancini's Manchester City. Arsenal travelled to Stoke, having lost at the Britannia Stadium both in this league fixture last season and in the FA Cup in January. Portsmouth's win over Burnley in December was their first under Avram Grant - could they do the double at Turf Moor? Birmingham v Wigan promised plenty of goals, as the Blues won this fixture 3-2 last season and also prevailed by the same scoreline at the DW Stadium earlier in this campaign. Wolves were at Bolton in the day's other top flight game.

Arsenal host Burnley while Manchester United's are at Wolves. Wolves lost 3-0 to United in the reverse fixture before Christmas, with manager Mick McCarthy criticised for fielding an under-strength team. With home advantage, McCarthy will plot a repeat of the shock win by Wolves when they last hosted then-league leaders United in the Premier League in 2004. Burnley make their first visit to Arsenal in the top flight since 1975. The sides drew 1-1 at Turf Moor earlier in the season, but Burnley's away form has been as wretched as Arsenal's home form has been excellent. The Gunners are hopeful that a relatively easy run-in will keep them in the hunt for the league title, and winning fixtures like this one are essential if they are to challenge for silverware.

Gary Lineker presents highlights from the day's Premier League matches, including the local derbies between Arsenal and West Ham, Aston Villa and Wolves and Burnley and Wigan. Arsenal and West Ham share the need for all three points at the Emirates Stadium, though for different reasons. The Gunners retain ambitions of regaining the Premier League title they last won in 2004, while the Hammers are fighting against relegation. In the Midlands, Villa continue their pursuit of European qualification against a Wolves side desperate to avoid an immediate return to the Championship. Burnley face a similar fate, but with their dismal away record would probably be content with a point at fellow strugglers Wigan.

Gary Lineker presents the best of the action and reaction from the day's seven Premier League matches, with the three title contenders all involved. Chelsea host an Aston Villa side with aspirations of securing a third successive top-six finish and a place in European competition. Villa have already beaten Chelsea once this season, overturning Didier Drogba's early strike at Villa Park with goals from defenders Richard Dunne and James Collins, but it is eight years since they last triumphed at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal also face West Midlands opposition in the shape of Birmingham. Arsene Wenger's Gunners have only lost once in their previous 16 games in this fixture and can ill-afford a slip-up as they strive for their first silverware in five years. However, their hosts have exceeded expectations in their first season back in the top flight and could prove obdurate opponents. In the late kick-off, defending champions Manchester United are in action at neighbours Bolton, where they have only lost once in more than 30 years. Owen Coyle's Bolton need the points as desperately as United as they strive to maintain their Premier League status.

Gary Lineker introduces highlights from all of the day's matches in the Barclays Premier League, which include a huge clash between title rivals Manchester United and Chelsea. Arsenal are aiming to do the double over Wolves, having thumped them 4-1 at Molineux. Birmingham held Liverpool at Anfield in November and are looking to at least match that at St Andrew's. Burnley and Manchester City meet at Turf Moor, having shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller earlier in the season. Bolton host Aston Villa, no doubt hoping Martin O'Neill's side will have one eye on next week's FA Cup semi-finals. Portsmouth are also in the last four of the FA Cup but with every point crucial in their battle to avoid relegation, they cannot afford to slip up at home to Blackburn. In the day's other games, Hull visit Stoke and Tottenham are at Sunderland.

Gary Lineker presents the best of the action and reaction from the day's Premier League matches. Hull host Burnley at the KC Stadium with both teams battling for their Premier League existence. Both clubs have changed managers since Burnley beat Hull 2-0 back in October, veteran Graham Alexander scoring both goals. But the Clarets' away form has been consistently poor all season, and they haven't managed a win at Hull since 1994. Also struggling at the wrong end of the table are West Ham United, who host Sunderland. Both sides have endured difficult starts to 2010 and are in desperate need of points. A repeat of the reverse fixture would certainly be welcomed by neutrals - the teams shared four goals and each had a man sent off in an absorbing encounter.

Adrian Chiles presents highlights of the four Premier League games, plus a review of Saturday's action. The battle for fourth place and qualification for next season's Champions League continues with both Liverpool and Manchester City in action. Liverpool host Fulham, who shocked the Anfield club back in October with a 3-1 victory in a game that also saw the Reds reduced to nine men. Expectations at Manchester City were high back in August, but opponents Birmingham have arguably been the season's biggest success story. Nevertheless, the Manchester club remain in the mix for a fourth-place finish, and will be confident of preserving an unbeaten home record against the Blues that dates back to 1998. Blackburn host champions Manchester United at Ewood Park. Sir Alex Ferguson's side have won the last four meetings between the sides, and haven't lost away at their North West rivals since 2006. The day's other game sees relegation-threatened Wolves host Stoke at Molineux.

United beat City 4-3 earlier this season, thanks to an injury-time winner from Michael Owen. Can City gain revenge and boost their Champions League hopes at the same time? There's a London derby to savour at White Hart Lane, where Tottenham will hope to derail Chelsea's title challenge. And at the other end of the table, Iain Dowie's relegation-threatened Hull cannot afford to lose at Birmingham.

Gary Lineker presents the best of the action and reaction from the final day of the Premier League season. All 20 teams played today as the remaining issues at either end of the table were finally decided. Defending champions Manchester United hosted Stoke at Old Trafford, Arsenal met Fulham in a London derby, and Chelsea's pursuit of a first league title since 2006 concluded at home to a Wigan side that beat the Blues in the reverse fixture. Burnley's debut season in the Premier League ended with the visit of a Tottenham side that has spent the season striving for a top-four finish. Manchester City also set out this season to earn Champions League qualification and finished their campaign at West Ham, who have endured a difficult time on and off the pitch. Meanwhile, Liverpool were hoping to finish strongly against lowly Hull.

Gary Lineker is joined by Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer and Lee Dixon for coverage of England's final group match as they take on Slovenia in Port Elizabeth. Slovenia is a nation of only two million people but they will not be underestimated by Fabio Capello's England, who were fortunate to beat them 2-1 at Wembley in a friendly in September 2009. The Slovenians vowed revenge after that game for the generous award of a penalty when Wayne Rooney was adjudged to have been fouled. With qualification for either side possibly resting on this game, tensions could run high. Commentary comes from Guy Mowbray and Mark Lawrenson.

Live coverage of the last sixteen clash between England and Germany from Bloemfontein. The winner will face Argentina or Mexico in the quarter-finals.

Gary Lineker presents highlights and goals from Saturday's Premier League action. Sunderland v Manchester United West Ham v Fulham Tottenham v Aston Villa Birmingham v Everton Stoke v Blackburn Wigan v Wolverhampton West Brom v Bolton

Gary Lineker presents highlights from the day's Premier League matches, including Chelsea's trip to Aston Villa. New boss Gerard Houllier could not have chosen more difficult opponents for his first home game in the Villa dugout. The Blues beat Villa 3-0 in last season's FA Cup semi-finals and also put seven goals past them in their most recent league meeting. West Brom head to Old Trafford looking for their first win away to Manchester United since 1978. Arsenal take on Birmingham at the Emirates Stadium, while Fulham face London rivals Tottenham. Elsewhere, Bolton meet Stoke, Newcastle play Wigan and Wolves take on West Ham.

Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer cast their eyes over the day's Premier League fixtures, with champions Chelsea in action against Wolves. Gerard Houllier's Aston Villa are at Sunderland, hoping that Emile Heskey can lead them to victory as he did last year with the opening goal in a 2-0 win. West Ham welcome Newcastle to Upton Park in the evening kick-off. Will former Newcastle midfielder Scott Parker put one over the club who sold him to West Ham for 7 million pounds three years ago? Birmingham v Blackpool Chelsea v Wolverhampton Sunderland v Aston Villa Tottenham v Everton West Brom v Fulham West Ham v Newcastle Wigan v Bolton

Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen and Lee Dixon cast their eyes over the day's Premier League fixtures, with Manchester United facing Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have failed to win at Old Trafford since a certain Mr Lineker scored the winner in a 1-0 victory in 1989. Champions Chelsea have an away trip to Blackburn Rovers, who held them to a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park last season. And struggling West Ham travel across London to face a daunting fixture with Arsenal. Arsenal v West Ham United Blackburn Rovers v Chelsea Everton v Stoke City Fulham v Wigan Athletic Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City

Wolves face a tricky away trip to Old Trafford, where they have not beaten Manchester United since 1980. Gerard Houllier's Aston Villa side take on Fulham at Craven Cottage, while Blackburn host Wigan at Ewood Park in what is sure to be a keenly-contested Lancashire derby. West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan return to Birmingham City for the first time since their 16-year association with the club came to an end in 2009, and Blackpool welcome Everton to Bloomfield Road for their first top-flight clash in 30 years. Elsewhere, Bolton host Tottenham and Sunderland meet Stoke.

Gary Lineker introduces highlights of the evening's Premier League action in a special midweek edition of Match of the Day. The Manchester derby is always a passionate affair, but with both United and City both genuine Premier League title contenders, the match at the City of Manchester Stadium promises to be a fascinating encounter. There's another derby in West London, where Chelsea host a Fulham side now managed by former Stamford Bridge favourite Mark Hughes. Blackpool travel to Aston Villa for their first top-flight clash since 1967, and Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce returns to Newcastle, where he spent an unhappy eight months in charge in 2007. Elsewhere, struggling West Ham host Roberto Di Matteo's West Bromwich Albion, Bolton travel to Everton and Wolves host Arsenal. The programme will also feature highlights of Tuesday's games between Stoke and Birmingham, and Tottenham versus Sunderland. Stoke City v Birmingham City Tottenham v Sunderland Newcastle v Blackburn Rovers Chelsea v Fulham Aston Villa v Blackpool Wolves v Arsenal Wigan v Liverpool West Ham v West Brom Manchester City v Manchester United Everton v Bolton

Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson discuss the action and reaction from the day's eight Premier League fixtures, including Manchester United's visit to Aston Villa. The Villans' manager Gerard Houllier masterminded a succession of wins over Sir Alex Ferguson's United side when he was previously in charge of Liverpool. Title-chasing Manchester City host Birmingham, who lost the corresponding fixture 5-1 last season. Struggling Liverpool face Stoke at the imposing Britannia Stadium, where the Reds have failed to win in their previous two Premier League visits. Gary Lineker presents highlights and goals from Saturday's Premier League action in Match of the Day . The Emirates Stadium hosts the north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham. The visitors have not won away to the Gunners since the inaugural Premier League season in 1992/93, and have often been overshadowed by their local rivals. However, Spurs are a club on the rise under Harry Redknapp, who helped his side finish just one place below Arsenal last season, bringing Champions League football to White Hart Lane for the first time. Champions Chelsea have an awkward away game against Birmingham City, who held the Blues to a goalless draw in this fixture last December. Manchester United put 10 goals past Wigan in their two games last season, and will hope for a repeat performance at Old Trafford. Elsewhere, Blackpool meet Wolves, Bolton play Newcastle, West Brom take on Stoke and Liverpool host West Ham.

Gary Lineker presents Premier League highlights, including Manchester United's match against Blackburn at Old Trafford. Sam Allardyce's Rovers came away from Manchester City with a point in September, and a similar result in Manchester today would dent United's title aspirations. Arsenal's title push continues at Villa Park, where Gerard Houllier's Aston Villa should provide a tough test. Man Utd v Blackburn Aston Villa v Arsenal Wolves v Sunderland West Ham v Wigan Everton v West Brom Bolton v Blackpool Stoke v Man City Fulham v Birmingham

Gary Lineker presents highlights from the day's seven Premier League matches, including Chelsea's home fixture with Everton and a London derby between Arsenal and Fulham. Champions Chelsea have been imperious at home, but Everton took four points off them last season and there has never been more than one goal between them in the last eleven meetings. Fulham's short journey to Arsenal offered little promise for the visitors, who have never won at the home of the Gunners despite more than a century of trying. Elsewhere, Manchester United made a seaside trip to Blackpool, Birmingham hosted Tottenham, Manchester City faced local rivals Bolton, Blackburn played Wolves and Stoke met Wigan.

Gary Lineker presents highlights of today's Premier League clashes, including Newcastle United v Liverpool at St James' Park and Aston Villa v West Bromwich Albion at Villa Park. The Reds had won the last four fixtures against the Magpies, including a remarkable 5-1 victory in the north east on their last visit in 2008. The Villans and Baggies had met eight times in the Premier League before today, and West Brom were still looking for their first victory
