SOAP
Everyone who has gone through SOAP stresses the importance of being prepared. With that in mind, we've put up a SOAP Prep Megathread (link here) where we've consolidated some previous posts and created a space where you can ask questions and get advice.

Hi everyone,
Whats the next Step after Accepting the SOAP offer ? I saw on the NRMP that " You have Fully Matched " however the pop is no longer there Do we get any notifications ? via email ????.....
STRESSED !!!! Going Crazy !!!
Do I make anything of the fact that I got one of those silent "Spam Risk" calls from the area code of my #2 program today?
How are people coping tonight? Not sure if I’ll be able to fall asleep
Drugs.
Also ran a 5k.
edited to add the 5k in so I sound healthy.
Because they're chill. I don't have anxiety and I just enjoy the time I get. I'm happy I'm matched and I'm spending time with friends and going be drinking tomorrow before match day
Some of us have partners or families lol
If I was single then I’d be chilling. But I have you know 1 city In the entire country where I’ll truly be happy so that causes nerves
Yeah that makes sense. I don't know why I was so snarky earlier, my apologies. Good luck, hope you get that 1 city
Drinking
Matched into a program I liked via SOAP I can now join this thread without totaling my mental
chad energy
Congrats!!!
Our schools have our results and making envelopes now 😭😭😭😭😭
There they are laughing at me matching in podunk Arkansas 😔
I hate that they know but we don’t know ;_____;
Wait what Omg!!! So it's public info now?!!!
No. Only schools and programs find out today, and they’re not supposed to tell anyone. Though hilariously last year a gas program posted on Instagram.
sharing this information feels sadistic lol
37 hours, but who’s counting
Congrats to everyone who matched!
Blessed to have matched EM, but the crazy high application number makes me feel like I’m sliding down my list mentally. Anybody else having similar feelings? Feel like this is probably normal during match week haha
Hey man, EM resident here at a fairly competitive western program. Don't fret. Higher application numbers this year seem to have come from a generally less competitive applicant pool. I reviewed a good number of applicants this year who were obviously applying EM as a backup. A lot of these applicants did not even meet our basic application requirements, and we have a truly impressive holistic review process.
So all that is to say don't read into the application numbers too much. If you feel like you were a competitive applicant, you'll likely end up somewhere you like.
Good luck on Friday!
Couples matched successfully! Only ranked programs in the same geographic area. So curious to know where myself and my spouse ended up! Also, good luck to those currently SOAPing! I'm so sad SOAP isn't over several weeks instead of a few days because interview season is tough. Good luck to everyone!
I was fully convinced I wasn’t gonna match with my 7 interviews and 22x step 2 but here we are, an OBGYN in the making 💪
🫡 Hell yeah
Against the odds, I matched Plastics, y’all. I’m a big idiot but apparently there’s some program out there full of bigger idiots that I somehow managed to trick. EVERYTHING’S COMING UP MILHOUSE.
Yes, salesmanship is everything. You will also be fooling all of your future patients that you are a great plastic surgeon!
Anyone else questioning their top rank list? 🌚
My top was far and away better than all my others, 2-5 are definitely interchangeable..
I am jealous of anyone who isn't second guessing decisions made on that damn list.
I applied to 3 specialities, i regret putting 1 speciality as high as I did. The programs are great infact wonderful... the field not so much
Got an email from an unknown address saying "congratulations" and I thought "oh shit, maybe my program's reaching out to me already!"
Turns out it was my school's alumni association asking me for money.
Had all preclinical social events eliminated due to covid with decrease in tuition and no making up for said events after lockdowns. My school isn't getting shit from me.
I need it to be Friday already

Lol
I hope someone can help with this question: I'm a peds critical care fellow who is doing anesthesiology residency next. I ranked both R spots (starting July 2024) and A spots (starting July 2025). My match e-mail said "Congratulations, you have matched!" Does that mean I matched into an R spot?
I'm 1) a pediatrician and 2) so distant from my first residency match, so I'm not too smart at this. Thank you for the patience and grace!
I believe that means you matched into an R spot since if you got an advanced position it would have said "Congratulations you matched into an advanced position but not a preliminary position" and would have listed the city/zip of where you matched
Oh wow! Thank you. Glad I don't have to wait a year to start.
You have matched both a 1st year position and 2nd year position, whether that it is both a prelim and advanced position or just a categorical one
How is possible that I matched a first-year position when I only ranked R and A spots? I'm not doing a prelim year. I've already completed a residency years ago. Also, I didn't rank any categorical spots. I'm having a hard time understanding your reply but thank you for taking the time nonetheless. Could you clarify?
Didn’t match ortho 2023. SOAPed into EM and realized ortho is what I wanted, busted my a** and reapplied with my programs support and matched ortho 2024.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do what you want
Congrats!!!
I'm on cloud 9. Flying to Hawaii rn. Matched anesthesia. LFG!
Congrats! That's so exciting!🎉
what is your score ?
Weirdly specific question. I couples matched prelim gen surg and got the location of my program. My SO matched psych and did not get the location of her program on the email as expected, but on the NRMP website she has a program location. Is that the location of my prelim or her psych program? 😭🤞🏻
Update (if someone is in this same weirdly specific situation): we called the NRMP and the location in my girlfriend’s page is the location of her actual categorical positon. WE DID IT, WE MATCHED TOGETHER! 🥹❤️😭

Unfilled as in no positions filled? Otherwise you could have matched there

So potentially, but you a baller ass mfer, so prob matched #1
Wish we could see the unfilled slots
This was my question, my number 2 went unfilled and they did send me an email saying I was on their rank list somewhere
I'd take that as a very good sign!
Yup, unless you weren't on their rank list
either you matched above them or your number 8 didnt rank you at all

Matched ortho, I am in utter shock! Best day of my life fr!!!
Nice, now forget every antibiotic besides Ancef 🗿
already did even before this hahaha
Matched peds with a retake of level 2 and no STEP exams! I know it's not much, but I'm so happy to have a spot in my dream specialty. <3
Not much?!?! Nonsense, this is EVERYTHING. You crushed it, congratulations :)
Also matched peds!!!! So excited!!! It IS a big deal! Let’s go take care of some babies👶🏻👶🏽👶🏿👶🏼
If you like it, it's a lot my friend. No need to put yourself down or hype up specialties like Ortho. Peds is still amazing

Shocked at the amount of unfilled FM spots
Looks like equal amount infilled IM
What’s the breakdown of spots?
Where can see this sort of data? Thanks!
NRMP R3 website > Reports tab
Edit: oh I guess you’re an M1, you’ll need to find a M4 who matched
got it, thank you!
More than last year?
Psychhhhhhhhh
I am too freaking happy, there's nothing like freedom!!
Matched into Neurology! Best of luck to everyone, hope we all end up in the best place for us!
Matched rads with a 241 step, a single case report, a single sub-I, and a go get em attitude!!
Edit: DO too
How many interviews did you get?
7
I swear to god I have aged 7 years in the last seven days just sitting here waiting with all this crap.
But I matched anesthesia!!! I'm so fucking grateful and elated. After only getting 5 IVs I was convincing myself that this was all in futility.
Congratulations everyone!!
And to the SOAPers - I know it must feel horrible to go through match week like this, but you got this. You will find a spot. You will find your next step forward. You will be an amazing physician like everyone else here!!!
Congrats!!!! All your hard work paid off! 🥳
So like when does residencies start? I'm trying to go on vacation
July 1 is official start date, but a lot of programs will have orientation stuff on the last 2 weeks of June.
Go on vacation in May after graduation
Usually they start in July, but some programs do a mandatory orientation in mid to late June.
lots of my programs say dont be outta town June 15
This is a good thing believe it or not bc unless your program is total shite, you get paid for the 2 weeks.
How much do they typically pay?
