Cody W The cinematography in MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD is astounding, and the storytelling is absolutely spot on. I believe that everybody should give Russell Crowe a lot of credit for this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Alec C Man the helm and take to the seas on this impressive adventure! During the Napoleonic wars, Captain Jack Aubrey is ordered to hunt down a french war ship, which becomes a bit of an obsession that causes significant issues among his fellow crew members, specifically his best friend surgeon Stephen Maturin. An intense and introspective war drama that shows us that a life at sea is not all that it's cracked up to be! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Jeff W Great film (from great fiction). Magnificent movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Arthur B Great action packed film - one of the best of its type - surprised they didn't make a sequel Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Ian F A brilliant movie. A superb depiction of the British navy of the day. Top cast. Interaction between the captain and the doctor not to be missed. Wonderful locations. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Alysha S What a remarkable story of a captain. While this film may be an action-adventure flick, it's so much more about relationships between characters (especially the captain and a doctor) than action. And that's almost entirely for the better. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Wendy Ide Times (UK) ... As satisfying as an epic yarn as it is as an intimate study of male friendship and courage. May 8, 2023 Full Review Anthony Lane New Yorker We feel ourselves to be in good company with these men, and strangely jealous of their packed and salted lives. Jan 18, 2022 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Intense battle scenes and a strong story of friendship. Rated: 4/5 Dec 26, 2010 Full Review Stephen Silver The SS Ben Hecht Above all else, it’s a portrait of a complex but ultimately healthy male friendship. The kind where the captain and ship surgeon take breaks from their adventures to play classical music duets. (20th anniversary) Rated: 4.5/5 Nov 17, 2023 Full Review Collin Garbarino WORLD The film depicts the indignities of a 19th-century life at sea, along with the horrors of the Napoleonic Wars. But the narrative rests on the bedrock of Aubrey and Maturin’s friendship. Rated: 4/4 Nov 3, 2023 Full Review Loren King Newport This Week (RI) Weir wisely grounds the intense but wearying high seas adventure in the friendship between Aubrey and Paul Bettany as Dr. Stephen Maturin, the ship’s surgeon who tends to the many wounded.
