Conceived as spaces where creativity and the development of ideas are supported by the use of technological tools, FabLabs are a model promoted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At the BUAP there is a space dedicated to this purpose, which recently received a distinction that integrates it into the International FabLab Network, awarded by the FabLab Foundation.

This recognition endorses the trajectory and equipment of the Directorate of Innovation and Knowledge Transfer (DITCo), of the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research and Postgraduate Studies (VIEP), and places the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla as the first public higher education institution of the state with this distinctive.

The FabLab Foundationwhich brings together more than 1,200 spaces of this type around the world, shares the objective of democratizing access to technical invention tools, in order to simultaneously form manufacturing networks, spaces for education, but also laboratories research.

The background of the current FabLab at the BUAP began in 2015, as a specialized services laboratory for the region’s industry, which with the passage of time and the acquisition of more equipment gave rise to the “BUAP Maker Zone.”

According to Eric Reyes Cervantes, science teacher and coordinator of FabLab BUAP, work is being done so that the Maximum House of Studies in Puebla consolidates its presence in the international network, which is an open and creative community of manufacturers, engineers, artists, students, educators, scientists, hobbyists and professionals from around the world, who share knowledge and innovative solutions to social and production problems.

In this way, FabLab BUAP makes available to teachers, students and the community in general equipment such as lathe, milling machine, 4-axis CNC, 3D printers (both filament and resin), laser cutter, circuit design and Arduino programming, among others. other hand, power and software tools.

FabLab BUAP primarily addresses the manufacturing needs of members of the university community, without neglecting entrepreneurs, businessmen and society in general, with various forms of affiliation, in a wide range of memberships.

In the same way, and in collaboration with the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies, FabLab BUAP will have FabLab Kids to bring science and technology closer to them from an early age, and thus impact scientific culturalization from the basic education level. awakening vocations in new generations.
