On Monday and Tuesday a lot of the restaurants in this area are closed so we were looking for a place to eat and happened upon this place. We went in and I had the small barbecue plate and my wife had the smoked chicken. We enjoyed our meals and the hushpuppies were great, The staff was very friendly. Overall we were glad we stopped.

Holy god, i ascended.

The food was so good that when i took the first bit i ascended to god and gave him a high five. 10/10 would recommend. the lady with the curly brown hair is definitely not my mom, love her tho.

Worth the stop

While on vacation we try to patronize local businesses. We were so happy to have found this restaurant online. Food was good and price was decent. They had over 7 people working and our food was out quickly.

Stopped in for the first time on 10/11/21 ordering bbq plates and soup. The staff were very kind unfortunatley the bbq wasnt that good, It was dry and had too much fat and parts that should had been removed before serving it.. The slaw wasnt good, the baked beans and fries were okay, the soup was not good at all, randomly thrown together with leftovers. No drinks were refilled. The Restarant did'nt look clean.

Carolina BBQ

We ordered pork sandwiches and one pork and beef burger. The burger meat was dried out and tough couldn't eat it. Actually, I didn't know that Carolina BBQ was suppose to be mushy. All in all, not impressed. counter service was good. and helpful. Probably won't be back.

One of our favorite places, but a big let down with their pork plate.

We eat here every summer and the food and service has been good, but this time we ordered 2 pork plates. The pork was like the ends which were totally tough and dry. We should have sent it back. The cole slaw had no flavor. However, we had their “fried okra” which was hot and excellent!

They could be really good!

If you catch them just right the chopped pork sandwich or plate can be really good. If you don't hit it just right the meat is dry and tasteless. I tried 11:30 AM and it was dry. The other day had their ribs. Very good.

Bad practice for the community

What is wrong with staff not wearing a mask.It’s not that hard to have a mask on. No one working here has a maskon,even bringing food to table without a mask. They have a sign on the door mask required. Will not come back or even recommend this place . They lost my business.

Decent food for the price.

My friend and I stopped here for lunch after a day of hiking. We ordered the barbeque and it was good, nothing outstanding, but still good. Serving size was pretty big. The barbeque plate came with 2 sides of your choice and hush puppies. Service was fine, food was delivered quickly, but we were one of the only ones in the restaurant at the time.

Terrible management and terrible food

My family and I stopped here for an early dinner and were very disappointed. I see a lot of positive reviews, so maybe we hit them at a bad time or something. We ordered the Mad Dog burgers, which sounded great: Mad Dog Burger with Cheese, Chopped BBQ Pork, pickles, 2 onion rings and 2oz. cole slaw. What’s not to like? The burger was dry and tasteless, but more disappointing was that the bbq pork on the sandwich was so dry that the edges were hard. It was like eating jerky at times. The slaw smelled old and the onion rings were soggy. What’s even worse is that the manager was extremely condescending and rude to the other staff members in front of customers. One staff member asked her a question and she replied, “I don’t know because I was doing MY job as a manager.” Even if she was disappointed in that staff member, she should not have been condescending to him in front of customers. She looked angry the entire time and I can see why with this type of “management “, the food was not good. We will not be going back.

The ribs were terrible. Staff don’t wear masks

My partner and I stopped at Carolina Barbecue in Newland, NC for lunch today. We ordered a full slab of ribs and two sides. At the outset, it is distressing that none of the staff in the restaurant deemed it necessary to wear masks to protect against COVID. We wore masks in compliance with the signs on the door, but the employees did not. The rib dinner cost $24 plus an upcharge of $1.78 for the onion rings, plus tax. Our bill came to $28. This was the most expensive item on the menu. We had high hopes that we would enjoy a delicious slab of smoked ribs, perfectly done in typical North Carolina style. But alas, we were so disappointed. Seemed that the ribs had been sitting for some time in a warmer, which caused them to be dried out. We did not taste much of the smoke flavor at all. I went inside again and stood in the busy line along with other people waiting to get to the counter. I did not want to wait in line a second time, so I asked a waitress if she could please come over to our table outside. She came over and we showed her the ribs and explained our concerns. She said she’s new there and doesn’t know what to say. We asked if she could please send out someone who could assist us. Well, no one came out. In our opinion, the ribs were not good at all. I see some people saying they like the food there and would go back - we did not have the same experience and would DEFINITELY not go back. The owners don’t seem to care much about their customers - they refuse to require their employees to wear masks as is mandated by the State, they served us below standard BBQ and when we tried to complain about this, they weren’t interested in even coming over to talk to us. The ribs were expensive and definitely not worth the money. Hope the owners will take note of this. If you’re going to do smoked BBQ, do it right. Take care of your customers- they determine your income. You get a 1 star rating from us.

Lunch in a rush, sort of.

Stopped in for a late grab and go late lunch. The counter girl was friendly and amiable. She was helpful in getting my order entered. Unfortunately it must have been changing of shifts because it took the kitchen staff to remind her that my order had been sitting ready to go. I had ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich with Carolina sauce on it, She was nice enough to give me plenty of sauce, Except the sandwich was already drenched in another type of sauce, Decent enough but not exactly what I wanted. The homemade soup was good and tasty, what was troubling was the staff did not wear any masks, not at the counter, not in the kitchen. For me that is very troubling. overall , decent food but the Covid precautions need to be tightened up.

Hey guys great BBQ sandwich I'm from morganton, I love Bbq could not fine good Bbq until now. I HATE mushey BBQ, yours is meaty and has good smoke taste. From 1 to 10 I give you a 10. Will be back often.

Food good but staff not wearing masks

Always eat here but not sure if I'll return this season. You would think the hardest-hit businesses (restaurants) would follow the NC restrictions for COVID. Staff wore no masks and if this town of Newland was smart about this, they would check the town restaurants. Half of the area is filled with Floridians coming from a state that enforces the rules to keep people safe. Good Luck Newland.

Passing through town gem!

We were totally skeptical. In our little southern town you can't get bbq or hair cuts on Monday or Tuesday. We wanted real food instead of drive thru so we took a chance. It was amazing! The vinegar based sauce is worth going for if nothing else. The potato salad is not the norm but it was really good. The baked beans and bbq were both a hit with my crowd and the service was friendly and efficient. Prices were also great! We will stop by again on our next mountains adventure!
