Empowering Students, Every Day

  • In the heart of Plant City, Marshall Middle Magnet is empowering every student, every day. Marshall Middle Magnet is now an authorized IB World School for the Middle Years Programme. These are schools that share a common philosophy - a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Marshall believes is important for our students.

This rigorous academic program empowers students to pursue lives of purpose and meaning, while striving to be open-minded, principled thinkers. Our Scholar Quest options include high school credit courses to challenge students, including Algebra, Geometry, Agriculture Foundations, Spanish, French, and more. Our nationally-recognized FFA program prepares students for the challenges of feeding a growing population. Electives help students expand their middle school experience, engaging in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) through Robotics Club using LEGO Education; Culinary Arts; both Performing and Visual Arts as well as Math League and AVID college readiness—then pursue the options that best spark their interests. Classmates connect through our many sports teams and clubs. At Marshall Middle Magnet, our supportive and caring staff works together to prepare all our students for the future, starting with our Sixth Grade Structure, helping students feel at home in their new learning environment.

To apply to Marshall Middle Magnet School, families must fill out a School Choice Application. Keep checking the Magnet Office web page to find out the next dates. Applicants will be selected by a random lottery based on available space in this new program.

School History

  • In 1920, Mr. E.J. Marshall persuaded Plant City to deed property to the school board for a facility to educate black children. Midway Academy was a three-story, red brickclaw structure initially serving grades 1 - 8. Beginning in 1936, one grade level was added each year until all 12 grades were taught. The upper levels were referred to as Plant City Negro Junior High and High School, although most in the black community referred to all levels as Midway Academy. In 1951, the school was converted to a high school for Edward Jackson (E.J.) Marshall, who was also the first African American to serve as a school trustee in the Plant City area. Marshall Junior High School was built on Maryland Avenue in 1957. In 1995 Marshall became a middle school. The school mascot is the Dragons.

We proudly submitted our candidacy application to the International Baccalaureate in October of 2019 and are now a fully authorized World School with the International Baccalaureate Organization. Marshall Magnet is a part of Hillsborough County Public Schools in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. Hillsborough County Public Schools is the 7th largest school district in the United States.

Marshall is known for our strong Agriculture program - our Future Farmers of America has been recognized as a three-star National Chapter!. Students will have the opportunity to earn numerous certifications for high school credit classes. Marshall has staff members with diverse experiences and awards, including National Board Certified, Ashbrook Center Fellowship Recipient, and NOYCE Master Teacher Fellow.
