Mark Consuelos says woman recently mistook him for Regis Philbin, who died in 2020: 'You're Regis!'

"She goes, 'You're Regis!' I said, 'I'm not!'" Consuelos said after a woman confused him with his wife Kelly Ripa's former "Live" cohost.

Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry? Okay. Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard? Maybe. Mark Consuelos and... the late Regis Philbin? Most might draw the line at that pairing of celebrity lookalikes, but not one excited New York City woman who recently mistook the two at a Knicks game.

Consuelos kicked off Tuesday's episode of Live With Kelly and Mark with a comical recollection of his evening, which saw him attend a star-studded basketball game alongside Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, John McEnroe, and more.

"We ate in the owner's lounge," Consuelos told his wife and cohost, Kelly Ripa. "This lady thought I was Regis. She goes, 'You're Regis!' I said, 'I'm not! I'm not. But, let's talk!'"

Ripa joked that she felt the "same" about the comparison, after co-hosting Live with the former Who Wants to Be a Millionaire personality, who died in 2020 at age 88, from 2001 to 2011 under the title Live! with Regis and Kelly.

Consuelos laughed about the mixup, admitting that he "knew what she meant" in suggesting that he was Ripa's cohost. "She was like, 'He's very muscular!' And I go, 'That's me!'"

The actor capped the story by telling the audience that the woman — who he didn't identify by name — told him she watched Live every morning, so he turned to the camera to give her a morning greeting.

"If you're watching, hi!" Consuelos said with a smile.
