Manuel Ugarte made 85 appearances in all competitions for Sporting Lisbon

Paris St-Germain have signed midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon for a reported 60 million euros (£51.1m).

The 22-year-old Uruguay international has signed a five-year contract which will keep him at the Parc des Princes until June 2028.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool had been linked with a move for the player.

"I am sincerely very happy to be able to make this big step in my career, at such a huge club. I will give everything for PSG," Ugarte said.

Ugarte, who has been capped eight times by Uruguay, becomes new PSG boss Luis Enrique's third signing since he was unveiled as successor to Christophe Galtier on 5 July.

The Ligue 1 champions have signed attacking midfielder Marco Asensio and defender Milan Skriniar on free transfers after they left Real Madrid and Inter Milan respectively.

    Tenner says he plays a handful of games, drops to the bench, gets paid millions of pounds in salary only to be loaned out in two years time with a £20M option to buy because PSG need to fund the signings of the next 6 midfielders they are trying to sign.

    Doesn't matter who PSG sign they cant improve the quality of their league enough to win the champions league. Playing against such lowly opposition each week has an effect.

      Nah don’t be daft, PSG will do their usual grift of trying to pretend they are a top team when in reality they are just a mediocre team in a mediocre league who just so happens to have ridiculous amounts of money (does FFP apply to PSG?). As usual they will win the French league but fail when they come up against a proper team.

    I saw him a bunch of times last season, excellent player. Wins the ball back a lot and plays really good passes. He'll be fine at paris

      You not think signing for PSG where you are expected to win and challenge in Europe, is more of a challenge that signing for a mid table English club for £100,000 per week where the expectation levels are zero every week? Avoid relegation and the premier league money rolls in for making up the numbers.

    PSG seems to be signing the wrong players: don't think Skriniar will be suited to their game. He is too similar to Marquinhos. They should be targeting young talent fro Portugal and Spain instead of players above 28yrs.

    I don't think PSG can sell Mbappe if he refuses, the only thing they can do is send him to the stands for the time left on his contract. I doubt anyone will pay the 150M PSG is asking for him.
