A shooter opened fire in Club Q, a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, late Saturday, killing five people and wounding 18, police said. Here’s what we know so far about the mass shooting. This story will be continually updated as more information comes out.

Where was the shooting?

The shooting happened at Club Q, a gay nightclub, located at 3430 N. Academy Blvd. in Colorado Springs.

How many are dead? And who are the victims?

The Colorado Springs Police Department said five people died in the Saturday night shooting. The names of the victims were confirmed by officials on Monday.

How many are injured?

Police initially said 18 people were injured, but then raised that number to 25 on Sunday. On Monday afternoon, officials revised that number back to 18, saying 17 people were shot and another person was injured but not by a gunshot wound.

Who is the suspect?

Police have identified the suspected shooter as 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich, saying they allegedly used a long rifle during this mass shooting. Police said the suspect was injured but did not know the extent of their injuries. They were taken into custody and hospitalized but later released into the El Paso County jail.

How was the gunman stopped?

Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers said that a patron at Club Q disarmed and hit a gunman with his own weapon shortly after shots erupted inside the nightclub, preventing further bloodshed.

“When police took him into custody there was an individual laying on top of him and had totally disabled him from perpetrating any further harm,” Suthers said Monday morning.

Is the shooting being investigated as a hate crime?

The 22-year-old suspected of killing five and injuring 18 in a shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs was arrested on suspicion of hate crime and murder charges, court records show. Anderson Lee Aldrich is being held on suspicion of five counts of first-degree murder and five counts of bias-motivated crimes causing bodily injury, court records show. The charges are “arrest-only charges,” meaning prosecutors have not officially filed charges and the charges could change.
